Ellerbe Denies Tank vs. Roach Jr. Fight Cancellation

Leonard Ellerbe has denied suggestions that Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. will not happen.

Davis first raised the alarm about the fight not happening when he posted that the bout was cancelled on his social media. Roach Jr. responded immediately by saying that there was nothing from his end to suggest the fight was not going ahead. Roach Sr. also came out to state that the bout was still going to happen as planned.

“The [hell] keep asking me for? He said that [stuff] not me. I’m locked in ain’t s*** changed. “March 1st Brooklyn #Andthenew,” Roach Jr.

“We haven’t heard anything. As far as I am concerned, the fight is still on. Nothing has changed on our end,” Roach Sr. said

Davis’ comments were worrying since Tank recently said he would be retiring next year. He plans to fight three times before leaving the sport to focus on his real estate portfolio and newborn son. That leaves Davis with limited time for fans to see him secure the biggest fights. After the Roach bout, Davis would have two fights left.

“After next year, I’m out of this… Out of the sport. It’s trash… This stuff is trash, trash… Tired. Tired of all this crap. “I don’t even care about that, bro. I don’t even care about that, and where I come from, bro, I’ll always be the greatest. I’ll always be a G for myself,” Davis said

Davis’ Future

He has consistently been linked with big names such as Shakur Stevenson, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and the Ryan Garcia rematch. There is a high chance that Davis will fight one of those boxers before he walks away from the sport since it would generate the most money. At the same time, he has been criticized for not facing those fighters earlier. Davis has consistently chosen to face weaker opposition. But seeing him face those names before he retires has led to a greater demand.

That will ultimately generate bigger revenue for him. The highest payday of his career was when he beat Ryan Garcia to secure a reported $50 million purse. But Tank’s future is uncertain. He also removed all his posts from Instagram. If Davis were not to fight in March, then it would potentially damage any plans he has on retiring next year. Boxing is not a sport to play with, as not many fighters come back once they retire.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. made a habit of retiring and returning to the sport, building his financial future outside the ring before returning. There is nothing to indicate that Davis would do the same since he is already in his peak and looking to exit. But Ellerbe shut down any suggestions that the fight is not happening, as he urged fans to come meet him in New York to see the bout. That puts the pressure on Tank to turn up.
