De La Hoya Rips The Haney Lawsuit – ‘Your Son Couldn’t Block The Left Hook’

Oscar De La Hoya ripped Devin Haney and Bill Haney following their lawsuit against Ryan Garcia.
The lawsuit emerged after Garcia boxed Haney in April and beat him via a majority decision. He sent Haney to the canvas three times in a spectacular performance. Unfortunately, the result was turned into a no-contest after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Garcia’s camp made it clear that the amount in his system was not enough to enhance performance. However, he was given a one-year ban, meaning that his return to the ring will be in April 2025. He reacted to the decision by suing Garcia for battery, fraud and breach of contract.
He also named Golden Boy Promotions in the lawsuit since he wanted to have an audit and see whether he was paid his full amount from the boxing fight. That did not go down very well with the boxing community, with fighters such as Tim Bradley calling the move ‘soft.’ There was a perception that Haney was struggling to move on from the performance after talks with the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Liam Paro over a fight broke down.
Haney’s Issue
Haney also disclosed that the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Teofimo Lopez turned down a fight for October, meaning that Devin’s next opponent is not clear. De La Hoya has now had his say.
He made it clear that the PPV event did not do as well as expected. He stated that it sold just over 300,000 buys.
De La Hoya also made it clear that Bill Haney could have easily come down to his premises since they live in the same neighbourhood and have a conversation to inspect the books. He also lashed out at Haney by sharing a montage of clips of him getting hit by the same left hook from Garcia, saying he could not understand why he would sue Garcia for battery since he is a fighter.
De La Hoya Reacts
“The Haney’s named my company ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ in the lawsuit because they want a full accounting of Devin’s fight against Ryan. In other words, they want to see my books. They don’t believe the fact that Garcia-Haney only did a little over 300,000 homes and that they have been paid what they are owed. They want more money that doesn’t exist. Number one, Bill, we live in the same fancy neighborhood in Henderson, you could have knocked on my door and simply asked to see my books. We have told you over and over that this fight just didn’t sell – those are the facts.
“Number two, you guys are suing Ryan Garcia for battery? You do know that your son Devin is a professional fighter, right? His livelihood is based on battering other opponents. This has to be the lamest claim that I have ever seen in the four decades that I have been involved in the sport. Now, Bill, you are going to say that Ryan was doped up for the fight. The traces of Ostarine were so minute that professionals have said that it didn’t even matter or make a difference. The truth is simple, that your son couldn’t block the left-hook. He couldn’t stay on his feet in those nasty Ugg’s that he was wearing and he couldn’t handle Ryan Garcia,” De La Hoya said
