Cyborg Ready To Make History Against Pacheco

Cris Cyborg wants to continue her legacy in MMA as she faces Larissa Pacheco on October 19.

Cyborg fights in the co-main event of Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira. It is a massive stage to show if she is still at the elite level, having not had an MMA fight since beating Cat Zingano at Bellator 300 last year to retain her featherweight belt. Since then, Bellator was bought out by PFL. Meanwhile, Cyborg struggled to get a fight. She was linked with a fight against Kayla Harrison. But the latter left the PFL to sign with the UFC, ending hope of that fight. Cris had two boxing fights during this period, beating Kelsey Wickstrum and Aria Wild in knockout wins. Cyborg is one of the greatest female MMA fighters ever.

Cyborg is the only MMA fighter to have become the Grand Slam Champion, winning titles in Bellator, UFC, Strikeforce and Invicta FC. Cris has been in the sport for over 20 years, with a 27-2 MMA record, which includes 21 knockouts and a submission win. But Pacheco is no pushover. Her record is 23-4, and she defeated Marina Spivac in her last fight. She also managed to beat Kayla Harrison in the last fight of their trilogy, giving her the only loss of her career. Pacheco has 11 stoppages to her name, with eight submissions. But Cyborg had history on her mind, as she wanted to add the PFL featherweight superfight belt to her collection.

Cyborg’s Aim

“I’ve been waiting and am excited for this fight. It’s going to start the legacy tour. If I win, I go into the next. I have three fights left. I’m telling my fans, come watch the fight. I’m going to complete two decades in fighting. I feel very blessed to be here, and for 20 years, and I’m going to fight for another belt. It’s amazing. To spend time training in boxing and feature in two fights was better than doing nothing. By doing that, I think I have kept myself in good shape going into this fight,” Cyborg said

Cyborg also addressed the possibility of whether she would consider fighting in BKFC. BKFC is quickly becoming one of the up-and-coming combat sports promotions in the world. A part of that has been due to the introduction of Conor McGregor into the organization. The Notorious has become a part-owner of the organization, attending numerous events as he urges fighters to consider it as an alternative to other MMA promotions.

He has also indicated his desire to fight under the promotion and get other big names from other sports to crossover. Oleksandr Usyk was one recent boxer who was linked with a BKFC fight. Cyborg was then asked whether she would consider doing the same. She is undefeated with a 4-0 boxing record, which includes two knockouts, showing she could crossover. And when she was asked about whether she would consider doing it, she did not rule it out.

“You know, I never thought about fight bare-knuckle, I think, no gloves, you know, every place you touch cuts, you know. I don’t know…I never thought about it, but maybe, you know, for some time if we’re having the opportunity about it… For sure have to be good money, because for sure, every place you punch, you’re gonna make it cut your face. You’re gonna be scarred for life. So, but… I’ve never cared to challenge, but I don’t know,” Cyborg stated
