Cyborg Calls Out Shields For A Boxing Fight- 'The Money Has To Be Right'

Cris Cyborg has called out Claressa Shields for a fight if the money is right.

Their relationship soured after they were initially former sparring partners with much respect. Shields then went into boxing and became a two-weight undisputed champion at 154 and 160 pounds. Claressa also had the feat of becoming a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Meanwhile, Cyborg went into the world of MMA. She entered the history books by becoming a Grand Slam Champion in MMA. She was the only person to have achieved that feat, winning belts in Strikeforce, Invicta FC, UFC, and Bellator.

But when Shields transitioned into the world of MMA, the problems began. Shields made her PFL bow this year after signing her deal with the outfit. She defeated Kelsey DeSantis on the PFL vs Bellator: Champs card at a 165-pound catchweight. The performance was not her best, as Shields was also submitted in an armbar. Cyborg was not impressed, forcing Shields to respond.

Shields Reacts

“Look, I’ll be honest with you, when I sparred against Cris Cyborg in 2018, I took it easy on her. I let her and her team doctor up a video to make it look close, but the first and second round, I beat the s*** out of Cris Cyborg. She cannot box, OK? And then we were supposed to work together more, but after I beat her in sparring, she didn’t want to spar no more.

“A guy had some money for me and Cris Cyborg to fight — he was speaking of a fight as big as Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou. I said I got the perfect person, I said Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes. So I thought about Cris and she was my friend. I hit her up, ‘I got money for us.’ I’m like, ‘Let’s make it happen,’ she’s all like, ‘Oh, thanks for hitting me up, of course I’ll get back with you.’ All of a sudden — the money is right, everything is good — she’s crying about the weight class,” Shields said

Cyborg Responds

Cyborg is coming off a second-round knockout win over Aria Wild to take her boxing record to 4-0. The last time Cyborg lost a fight in any form was her 2018 defeat to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. She is also 6-0 in Bellator. If the money is right, Cyborg will be willing to box Shields.

“I think the money has to be right for this fight to happen. Have to be close to MMA money, you know? People from boxing come into MMA because the money with girls is different. She don’t want to drop the weight. Now you guys see she’s going to go heavyweight. So, if I’m going to fight her it’s going to be 147, maybe 154 if the money is right. I know she can give up the weight. I can give up experience. [And] I have two (boxing) fights,” Cyborg stated
