Conor McGregor's 'Road House' Smashes Amazon Streaming Record

Conor McGregor’s acting debut in Road House has broken records.

McGregor starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of the 1989 film. McGregor was the film’s villain, playing the character of Knox, who buts heads with Gyllenhaal’s character Elwood Dalton. He received positive reviews for his performance, while Gyllenhaal praised McGregor’s willingness to learn on set. According to Deadline, the film has set a new record based on the two-week viewership. It is alleged the film drew in 50 million viewers from across the globe. In doing so, it became the largest ever for an Amazon MGM Studios release.

McGregor’s Film

“The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film’s cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal. The world is absolutely loving this entertaining, action-packed ride anchored by the performances of Jake, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Darren Barnet, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, JD Pardo, and the rest of our stellar cast. It’s great to see the film taking off with both fans of the iconic original as well as a huge turnout from new audiences. This incredible film is really giving everyone something to talk about, and we couldn’t be more proud,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said

This has raised the suggestion that the film could be released in theatres rather than just for Amazon. The success has also raised questions over whether McGregor will take up further acting roles. The UFC fighter has given conflicting comments on that. He initially was open to the idea of making more films, depending on how they were received. While that may have been the case, his latest comments suggest otherwise.

McGregor’s Future

“I feel like I could actually play any role on planet Earth, because I feel my life is so far removed from reality. Nobody knows me, nobody really knows me. They have assumptions of me. But nobody really knows me, and that is in my favor. I feel like I could play any role. People are saying I look different every day, every time people see me I look different. If that was somewhere I wanted to go, I could fancy it. But, I don’t actually fancy it. That’s the thing. I’m not really into it, to be honest. It’s a bit weird to me. Just get me back in that octagon,” McGregor stated

The comments suggest McGregor’s primary focus is on making his return to the UFC. He has not been in the Octagon since his 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. That was his third defeat in his last four UFC fights, as he suffered a broken leg. Talk of his return has been ongoing, with a return against Michael Chandler. McGregor’s latest comments stated it was ‘all systems go’ for a return this summer, while Chandler revealed he had confirmation over a fight. With no acting roles lined up, McGregor is desperate to return to the UFC.
