Conor McGregor Desperate To Make UFC Return; Nate Diaz Says 'Free Conor'

Conor McGregor is desperate to make his return to the UFC.

His comments were made in the run-up to the release of his first movie, ‘Road House,’ set to air on March 21 via Amazon Prime Video. With the promotion almost ending, McGregor is keen to return to the Octagon. He has not fought in the UFC since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. The defeat was the third out of his last four UFC fights.

He also suffered a broken leg, leaving question marks over whether he would return. McGregor announced on New Year’s Day that he would fight Michael Chandler on June 29. Dana White rejected those claims as McGregor patiently awaits his next fight. Since he has two fights left on his UFC deal, McGregor has been left inactive.

McGregor Reacts

“I’m looking forward to getting back and regressing, resetting and recalibrating and remapping my return to the octagon. I’m eager for that. We’re in the first quarter of 2024. There’s still a good chunk of the year left. I’ve got two fights left on my contract. Negotiations are ongoing. When the promotional work of the movie comes to an end, when the St. Patrick’s day festivities come to an end, it’s isolation and it’s focus, and move toward a return to the octagon,” McGregor said

If McGregor cannot secure a return, he has two possible alternatives. The Notorious has been linked with a boxing match against Manny Pacquiao. Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia is keen on making that boxing fight. McGregor also teased the idea of facing KSI, Jake Paul, and Logan Paul later. He also has the option of extending his film career. McGregor was vocal about extending his film career, depending on the reaction to Road House.

“Right now, not at this time. I’m going to regroup after all this work, I’ll leave it to the professionals. It’s hard work. It was very hard work. After [my fight], maybe next year or something, I do not know — I will not say never say never because I had such a great time, and I met some friends for life here, and I enjoyed the process. Even Amazon have been absolutely amazing to work with. Who knows what the future holds for sure in this industry,” McGregor added

Diaz On McGregor

McGregor’s comments about the UFC have gotten the attention of Nate Diaz. Diaz has faced McGregor twice, with their record at 1-1. McGregor has spoken about his desire to fight Diaz in a trilogy, but Dana White has dismissed making that fight. The inactivity resulted in McGregor admitting that he was losing motivation. Diaz has now sympathised with the fighter, saying he understands his struggles.

“This was me for years before Conor even got here they want u to die before u get out these contracts it’s up to u to make something pop no one gonna help you but you. Free Conor it’s at pattys day in this b****h,” Diaz stated
