Conor Benn Slammed For His Lack Of Power Following Failed VADA Tests - 'He Is No Longer Armed With Torpedoes'

Promoter Tom Brown, the founder of TGB Promotions, has questioned Eddie Hearn’s handling of Conor Benn.
Benn is currently prevented from fighting in the UK following his two failed VADA tests. The British boxer tested positive for Clomiphene, a substance that is known for being used as a concealer for a steroid cycle for more serious substances. Benn was suspended by UKAD only for the National Anti-Doping Agency to remove the suspension.

Reports stress Benn’s defense was based on jurisdictional grounds, preventing UKAD from enforcing VADA findings. UKAD and the BBBofC have appealed the decision, meaning Benn can’t box in the UK until that hearing clears him. That has left Benn with no choice but to box overseas, as he chose the US. His last two fights have been in the US against Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson. Benn looked very poor in both fights, going the distance against poor-quality opposition. Brown has now had his say over Hearn.

Brown On Hearn

“Eddie talks about building this guy into a star in the U.S.. You know, putting him in a small ballroom in Orlando, underneath Richardson Hitchins, and then the big bump up is a morning start at The Cosmo, that’s hardly the way to build a star. I guess maybe he’s trying to build a matinee idol. When the show started, most people in Las Vegas are coming back to their rooms after a Friday night out,” Brown said

Another question has emerged over Benn’s punching power. Before his failed VADA tests, Benn was stopping his opponents in a destructive fashion. In his last two bouts before the positive tests, Benn stopped Chris Algieri and Chris van Heerden in consecutive fights.

Algeri had gone the distance with Manny Pacquiao, while van Heerden had done the same with Errol Spence Jr. Both those boxers are known for being destructive punchers, making Benn’s knockout even more impressive. Now that Benn’s punching power has diminished, there have been suggestions that he is no longer the same fighter following his failed VADA tests.

Brown On Benn

“He better hope the British Boxing Board of Control gives the kid a license and he gets that Chris Eubank fight made because this kid is gonna be one and done after the way he looked in his last two fights. He fought a club fighter from Mexico and Peter Dobson, another club fighter from the USA. It looks like ‘The Destroyer’ is no longer armed with torpedoes. His last two fights tell you that,” Brown added

Those comments suggest Benn should focus on securing a big domestic Britsh fight. He could face Kell Brook, Liam Smith or Chris Eubank Jr. But to secure those fights, he must clear his name in the UK with the Board. Those fights only sells in the UK due to the big fanbase. While Hearn has made Gervonta Davis an offer to face Benn in the US, that is unlikely to get through since Benn is not a household name in America.
