Conceicao's Resume Shows He Faces A Tough Foster Rematch

Robson Conceicao aims to prove his doubters wrong when he rematches O’Shaquie Foster this weekend as we examine his resume in the big fights.

Conceicao won a controversial split decision against Foster to become the WBC Super Featherweight Champion: (Conceicao 116-112, 115-113) and (Foster 116-112). Most of the boxing community felt that Foster had done enough to win, as the boxing statistics also backed up that narrative.

CompuBox showed that Foster connected with ten or more punches during rounds five, seven, eight, nine and ten. Meanwhile, Conceicao only landed more during rounds four and 11. The total punches landed for Foster were approximately 25%, whereas Robson only landed around 10%. Foster was understandably angry, as was his manager, Keith Mills.

“Everyone with an eye can see that fight wasn’t close,. He couldn’t touch me. Yeah, I could have done more, you always can, but I don’t think that was going to play a part in the fight just having to put more activity. It was kind of easy. It could have been the judges for what they like to see. [And] it could have been activity. I’m not really stuck on that no more,” Foster said

Conceicao’s Resume

His boxing resume shows that he has had many close decisions. In 2021, he lost a unanimous decision against Oscar Valdez in a tightly contested fight. According to CompuBox, Robson connected with ten or more punches in the first five out of six rounds. But that figure was just two rounds for the second half of the fight. Valdez landed 64 power punches out of 209, while Conceicao connected with 103 out of 576.

Robson also secured a controversial majority draw in a fight against Emanuel Navarrete last year. This was for the WBO Belt at 130 pounds. CompuBox states that Conceicao connected with approximately 100 more punches than Navarette: 213 out of 852 for Robson and 116 out of 487 for Navarette. Conceicao also got the better of his opponent in the power shots department, leading with 101 compared to 95.

Conceicao overcame that disappointment by stopping Jose Ivan Guardado Ortiz in the fight before he secured the Foster win. However, there are still question marks over whether he can cut it at the elite level, as he must beat Foster decisively to silence those critics. Now Robson has the opportunity to prove that this win was not a bad decision.

Conceicao’s Aim

“The criticism was tremendously disrespectful, especially since I had already been in two big fights against Oscar Valdez and Emanuel Navarrete. I could have been the champion in both of those fights. Foster’s team wasn’t happy with my win, but he should have asserted himself more as the champion. He ran and avoided the fight. I showed I deserved the win.

“I was the one asserting myself and landing punches. I’m the champion because I fought for it and earned it. As the champion, you have to prove why you’re the champion. You have to assert yourself, not run or throw single shots. “Now, he has another chance, but I’m the champion. I’ll show why I’m the champion and go for the knockout. I’m coming to hit him hard and often,” Conceicao said
