Conceicao Vs. Foster Rematch: Predictions & Betting Odds

O’Shaquie Foster rematches Robson Conceicao, the WBC Super Featherweight Champion on Saturday, as boxing insiders gave their predictions and views.
Foster lost the first fight in a contentious split decision: (Conceicao 116-112, 115-113) and (Foster 116-112). The result was dubbed a ‘robbery,’ as the CompuBox numbers showed Foster having more success. Foster was in double-digit punches landed for rounds five, seven, eight, nine and ten, while Conceicao only replicated that in rounds four and 11.
The result was that Foster landed near 25 percent of his punches, while Robson had 11. However, since Foster was countering rather than initiating the action, Robson’s willingness to throw his hands swayed the judges. This time around, Foster vowed to throw more, while Robson aimed to show that the result was not a ‘fluke.’ Here is what boxing insiders had to say about the fight.
Predictions
“I like Foster to win this one. I think Conceicao got his thing. He finally got his title. I’m glad for him, I’m not happy that the other guy [Foster] got robbed. Foster got the rematch right away. I’m grateful for that. He’s younger [31]. Conceicao is older [recently turned 36]. I think he probably won’t be as good as he was in that fight. Maybe the age will show a little bit more, and Foster being a little bit younger. That will show,” Atlas said
“He fought a beautiful fight. Great distance control, good pace control, awesome defense, everything. I mean, a fantastic fight. All around he showed his skills, showed his boxing IQ…The decision goes the other way. He’s in the ring crying, losing his belt, and the tears were warranted, because he felt like he was doing everything right..The boxing gods have smiled upon us, and they’re allowing this rematch happen…There’s no way that heartache isn’t coming with him to camp…Now he’s just got to go out there and do it again,” Chris Algieri
Further Predictions
“Honestly, I don’t think Foster has to change anything. You know, he may want to make a statement in this fight, but honestly, he showed he’s better the first time around.. I think Foster has to do exactly what he did, as long as he can take the emotion out of it and just, you know, do what he did in the first fight, I think he’ll get the decision this time around,” Paulie Malignaggi
“Foster boxed his behind off. I don’t think Robson can compete with him in that department. So he’s going to have to get aggressive, just the way he did, come forward and try to land something, you know, significant this time. But Foster also has to change up. He needs to counter more often. You know, I felt that he didn’t counter enough,” Tim Bradley
Odds
DraftKings puts Foster as a -400 favorite, while Conceicao is a +290 underdog. Foster is the favorite based on his performance last time around. He has an axe to grind and may get a favorable decision if it goes to the scorecards based on the controversy in the first fight.
