Conceicao And Foster Face Off During Weigh-In: 'Foster Looks Scared'

O’Shaquie Foster prepares to reclaim his WBC Super Featherweight Belt when he takes on Robson Conceicao in their rematch, as both fighters made weight.

Foster lost a controversial split decision as Robson took home the belt despite many feeling the latter had come out second best: (Conceicao 116-112, 115-113) and (Foster 116-112). The boxing statistics backed that up as Foster outlanded his man in rounds five, seven, eight, nine and ten by double-digit punches. Robson only did this in rounds four and 11. Now, they will run things back with everything on the line.

Foster And Conceicao

Foster turned professional in 2012 against Theo Johnson in a fourth-rounder, stopping his man in the first round. Foster quickly worked his way up the ranks, securing himself a title shot against Rey Vargas on February 11. Foster won the title and went on to defend it twice. But that is when he came unstuck against Conceicao. That took his record to 22-3, with 12 fights coming by way of knockout.

His two other losses came against Samuel Teah and Rolando Chinea. The loss to Teah took place in 2015, losing via a unanimous decision. The second happened a year later, coming out second best against Chinea via a split decision. The two fighters both made weight, with Foster hitting the scales at 129.9 pounds.

Meanwhile, Robson secured the win against Foster in his fourth title attempt. He had previously lost to Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson, missing out on the WBC belt at 130 pounds. He secured another title shot for the WBO belt at 130 against Emanuel Navarrete. However, the fight ended in a controversial draw. Conceicao weighed in at 129.7 pounds.

Reaction

“Foster knows the reason he didn’t get the decision in the last fight was probably because of his lack of activity. He threw a lot less punches than Conceicao. Statistically speaking and the judges don’t have access to this, and it’s not 100% locked in stone, in the Compu-Box, he landed many more punches than Conceicao did. It was Conceicao who was throwing more shots, and he needed to step on the foot a little bit more. I think Foster won the first fight handily. If he’s a little more aggressive, I think he can win the win the second fight and get the decision this time,” Dan Rafael said
