Chisora Destroys Joyce With His Mind Games - 'You Protect People From School Bullies'

Derek Chisora has gotten into Joe Joyce’s head during the pre-fight build-up for their clash on Saturday.

The two go head-to-head in what is deemed to be a career-defining fight. Chisora has two losses out of his last six fights, as the 40-year-old is at the tail-end of his career. There are already worries that the boxer has shown early signs of CTE. He enters the bout with a win over Gerald Washington is his last fight.

Meanwhile, Joyce also faces questions about his future. The 38-year-old is known for having one of the best chins in the sport. However, that was exposed when he boxed Zhilei Zhang in two consecutive fights. He stopped in both, as Joyce never looked the same. He did bounce back with a win over Kash Ali in his last fight, but it took Joyce until the final round to get his man out.

Chisora On Joyce

The narrative heading into the fight is that Chisora will try to get under Joyce’s skin. Joyce is not known for being the biggest talker and is considered too nice for a heavyweight. Chisora demonstrated those claims by going on the front foot against Joyce and winning the battle of the mind games.

“Joe’s a nice guy. I don’t know what he’s doing in boxing. He’s a nice guy. He’s a nice fellow. I don’t know what you’re doing in boxing. You haven’t got that streak in you. You haven’t got that evilness in you. You’re the type of guy who protects other people from the school bullies,” Chisora

Chisora’s career has shown that he is far from that. He slapped Vitali Klitschko while spitting water at Wladimir Klitschko. Chisora also bizarrely kissed Carl Baker while throwing a table towards Dillian Whyte. The behavior shows that Chisora can flip the switch at any minute to keep Joyce guessing. While that is something to be expected, it may tempt Joyce into doing something he would not usually do: that is to second-guess his tactics. Chisora will look to get on the inside and expose any perceived flaws in Joyce’s chin.

Joyce’s Mentality

“You’re a nice man. You’re a cool guy. What are you doing in boxing? I don’t get it. You need to find something else because this is not your sport. You’re good at it but you need a bit of that spite. You’re trying to be something you’re not. [And] you’re not that person. I’ve always been that person from young. You know that. Everyday knows that,” Chisora

Chisora has been vocal about how this will be his last fight at the O2 Arena in London. That has increased the pressure on him to perform. However, he will likely have a pro-crowd in front of him, which Joyce must combat. Joe’s personality has sometimes been questioned, with claims he is ‘boring.’ While his fight over Joseph Parker propelled his name when he stopped the former WBO Heavyweight Champion, the Zhang losses showed Joyce did not have the extra gear when things got tough. Chisora vowed to expose those flaws, saying Joyce was not ready for what would come.

“This is my last fight at the O2. This is a very emotional night. You have to understand now, what type of man is he going to be fighting? He hasn’t gone to depths of what exactly is about to happen,” Chisora
