Carl Froch has hit out at the heavyweight division in light of Tyson Fury’s fight with Francis Ngannou

The ‘Gypsy King’ has been confirmed as fighting the former UFC heavyweight champion on October 28th, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Although the bout will be a boxing event, it has had massive implications for the heavyweight division.

The undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk has naturally been delayed once again, as boxing fans continue to wait for the first undisputed champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis overcame Evander Holyfield

Not only that, but given that Froch was known for fighting all the big names out there which made him a four-time world champion, the ‘Cobra’ slammed the Fury-Ngannou bout.

“Frank Warren’s just announced Tyson Fury will fight Francis Ngannou, who is an MMA fighter, so it’s another crossover fight – load of rubbish.

“He’s on about, ‘the game’s changed, it’s going to change the whole sport’. Absolute load of sh!t. I don’t like swearing, but it’s a load of sh!t. We don’t want to see that fight. We want to see Tyson Fury in there with Usyk,” Froch

Nevertheless, those comments were not the only ones which indicated Froch’s dissatisfaction with the heavyweight division.

Froch has also been very critical of Anthony Joshua. He questioned the Brit’s legacy in light of his failure to fight the biggest names including Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

Although that may be the case, there is no denying that ‘AJ’ was a former unified heavyweight world champion on two occasions.

In addition, Joshua was instrumental in putting the heavyweight division back at the forefront in the UK. That has resulted in Derek Chisora questioning Froch’s motives.

Chisora and Joshua are well acquainted with each other having been in the same management circles.

And on top of that, Chisora much like Joshua, has fought the biggest names out there even if he did come up short.

As such, Chisora reacted strongly to Froch as he backed ‘AJ.’

“Froch saying that Joshua’s on the slide? He should just shut up. It’s just jealousy. Simple. It’s jealousy, nothing else.

“You say things in public, things like that…it’s jealousy. It’s nothing else.”

“If I want to say something to him which is negative, I call him. I won’t just run about it on cameras. It’s jealousy. It’s as simple as that.

“He’s jealous of AJ’s achievements, 100 per cent. That’s why he says such things in public,” Chisora stated

Joshua still has some time left to achieve more in the sport. At the age of 33, the Brit has a couple more big fights left in the tank.

And given that he has hired the services of Derrick James who is known for working on boxing fundamentals, Joshua’s mindset suggests that he still has more to give in the sport.

In addition, Joshua’s status as a cash cow in the division is something that many fighters are not close to achieving, let alone Froch.

As a result, Chisora backed Joshua to beat Whyte in style.

“In the first two or three rounds, Dillian will cause a big commotion, and AJ will bite his gumshield, and by round eight or nine, Dillian gets knocked out,” Chisora

Much in the same way, a former opponent of Joshua and Whyte has also favored ‘AJ’ to deliver the goods.

Jermaine Franklin went the distance with both fighters. However, when it came to Whyte, some of the boxing community felt that the American should have been given the decision.

Although Joshua went the full 12 rounds with Franklin, it was in truth, an easy unanimous decision win despite the criticism that emerged over not getting a knockout.

And for Franklin he sees an AJ win.

“I think Joshua will beat Whyte. I don’t think it’ll be a hard fight for Joshua. It was a little harder for Joshua to punch me cause it’s harder for bigger guys to punch down than it is for shorter guys to punch up, but you know when you’re taller, some of those shots are easier to get off. Yeah, I think beats Dillian,” Franklin stated

A mega domestic fight is the perfect way for Joshua to prove his critics wrong. And at the O2 there can be no better venue.

Joshua’s first world title came at the iconic venue when he overpowered Charles Martin to claim the IBF title.

And at the same time, it was the home to the first bout with Whyte, as Joshua won by a seventh-round stoppage.

However, defeat would be a major setback given the absence of a rematch clause. That is why it is make or break for both Joshua and Whyte.

So the question remaining is who will come out victorious? You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing by visiting boxingblitz right here.
