Carl Froch Slams Frank Warren For Claiming He Ducked Joe Calzaghe

Carl Froch has hit back at Frank Warren’s suggestion that he ducked Joe Calzaghe.
Calzaghe is one the greatest fighters to ever grace the sport, having gone unbeaten with a record of 46-0 with 32 KOs.
This included major wins over Roy Jones. Jr. Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins.
And in the process of doing so, Calzaghe became a two-division champion at super middleweight and light heavyweight.
But for all the accomplishments that may have come his way, a fight with Froch did not occur.
This is despite the fact that Froch was the mandatory for his WBC title. In response, Warren accused the Brit of ducking Calzaghe.

“Carl, I’m going to remind you now. You met me in the polo lounge of the Westbury Hotel and brought down your financial advisor, and we were trying to make the Joe Calzaghe fight.
“The fight everybody wanted to see at the time – apart from you. All you kept talking about was, ‘Is he going to go up in weight? When’s he going up in weight?’
“Because you didn’t want to fight him, Carl. And let me remind you about something else – did you know Tyson (Fury) sold 94,000 tickets at Wembley?” Warren
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Calzaghe moved up in weight in order to face Hopkins and Jones in what were his last fights.
In addition, Froch was not a high-profile name at the time since he was coming up the ranks, as a rising star looking for his big break. And ultimately, the timing may not have favored Calzaghe as the ‘Cobra’ stated.
“I was mandatory for the WBC, which JC (Joe Calzaghe) was holding. He vacated rather than fight me, pretty simple, really. Old fish eyes have lost his f*****g marbles. He needs saving from himself,” Froch stated
Ultimately, the fight did not happen. And yet, this does nothing to take away Froch’s legacy. After all, he was a four-time world champion who has now entered into the ‘Boxing Hall of Fame.’
