Caleb Plant Wants Jermall Charlo Next – ‘That Needs To Happen’
Caleb Plant is desperate to secure a big fight against Jermall Charlo.
The two boxers do have a lot of bad blood, which came to the fore when the pair squared up at each other following the Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford weigh-in. Thereafter, Plant decided to lash out at the boxer by hitting him across the face.
Security subsequently intervened to separate the two, after which Plant gave his reasons for the altercation. The former IBF super middleweight champion revealed that the boxer had disrespected him in front of his wife, which included the latter pulling his beard.
Thereafter, the talk over a fight began to gain traction. Charlo recently made his return to the ring against Jose Benavidez Jr. in order to secure a unanimous-decision win. The victory was vital since it was the American’s first fight in over two years after suffering from mental health issues. And since Plant attended the fight, it was clear that there was a willingness to make the fight happen. In response, this is what Plant had to say.

“Just trying to get that Charlo fight. That’s what we want next. I don’t need a tuneup going into that fight. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been off a little bit. I want that fight right next. I’m not hard to make a fight with, and I ain’t hard to find. It [Charlo’s fight] wasn’t nothing spectacular.
“He’s in there against a much smaller guy. He got his job done. He won. I’m glad he won. That’s what I wanted, for him to win, so we can make a fight happen. It’s not like I was super impressed or anything like that. but I’m glad he won…that’s the fight that needs to happen next,” Plant said

Nevertheless, in order for that fight to happen, there are still a few issues that need resolving. Charlo’s next steps are unclear, given that he has spoken about wanting a Canelo Alvarez fight. Prior to his brother, Jermell Charlo, facing the Mexican, he had been linked with Canelo.
However, the turnaround time was not enough since the boxer had been out for so long. In addition, will Charlo move up to 168? He is still the WBC middleweight champion, who has mandatory obligations. His mandatory Carlos Adames has been waiting in the wings for more than two years. Despite Plant being linked with a fight, Charlo did not appear keen on facing him, as he took his time out to mock the fact he had not belt.
“Man, we ain’t worried about none of that. Like talk to me about something good. That s**t old. That s**t stale. We want something new. You know what I mean? Who got the belts? He don’t got no belt. He struggling right now. You know what I mean? I’m not worried about him. We still on top, we looking good. You know what I’m saying? We still going. They can’t wait for me to fight again. I can’t wait to fight again. As long as we keep it like that, we all right,” Charlo stated
