Cherneka Johnson puts every major bantamweight belt on the line against unbeaten Dina Thorslund this Sunday at the Caribe Royale. Johnson unified the division last summer when she stopped Shurretta Metcalf in nine, adding three straps to her WBA title, then defended the lot against Amanda Galle in December. Thorslund is 24-0 but hasn't held any of these belts since she stepped up to interim featherweight in January—this is her shot to reclaim undisputed status at her old weight.
Neither fighter carries knockout power—both are pure volume punchers who go the distance. Johnson's last stoppage was the Metcalf fight in round nine; Thorslund hasn't stopped anyone in her last seven. This goes to the cards unless one of them wilts under sustained body work late.
Johnson wins if she can impose the same suffocating pace she used to break Nina Hughes in seven rounds last March. She's 21-2 with no knockout losses, and her two defeats came on the scorecards—she doesn't fold under fire. The height edge is marginal at 2cm, but if she can walk Thorslund onto combinations in the second half, the stoppage is there.
Thorslund wins by staying technical through ten rounds and banking points on the outside. She's defended at bantamweight three times between 2023 and 2024, all decisions, and her last outing at interim featherweight in January went the full ten against Álvarez. If she can match Johnson's output without taking body damage, the unbeaten record carries weight on a tight card.
