Amanda Serrano Breaks Silence After Loss to Katie Taylor!

Amanda Serrano has spoken out after her defeat against Katie Taylor on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card.

The pair squared off in a rematch of their 2022 clash, which Taylor won via a split decision in controversial circumstances. Serrano had the opportunity to avenge that loss, but unfortunately, she came unstuck in another contentious decision on the scorecards. She lost a unanimous decision, with the spectators booing the verdict: 95-94, 95-94 and 95-94. According to CompuBox, Serrano outlanded Taylor by 107 punches. Serrano connected with 324 punches from 734.
Meanwhile, Taylor landed 217 from 529.

Taylor also controversially butted heads with Serrano, even if it was accidental, in the fourth round. This resulted in a big cut over Serrano’s right eye. The cut kept bleeding throughout the fight, as Taylor eventually received a warning for that clash of heads. She was then deducted a point. Taylor had been accused of being a dirty fighter against Chantelle Cameron following another headbutt incident. Taylor would defeat Cameron to avenge her loss in the first fight to become the Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion. Serrano reminded everyone of that in her post-fight comments.

Serrano Reacts

“Every time you get a cut it hurts. You get blood in your eye. She kept headbutting me, but we knew that from the very beginning, the first fight. It’s not only my fight, she did it with Chantelle Cameron,” Serrano stated

Taylor stated that she was ultimately the better fighter, winning on both occasions on the scorecards. Serrano has now spoken out, stating she had given everything she could.

“Obviously, I am upset. I am really sad, because I went out there and I feel like I gave it my all,. I had a big gash in my eye, and I just kept fighting. To me, it didn’t matter — blood, sweat and tears — I went in there, and I gave it my all,” Serrano said

What’s Next?

This naturally raises question marks over whether there will be a third fight. Taylor can rematch Serrano or Cameron, offering her an opportunity to earn big purses in both fights. The Serrano fight is much bigger globally, given that it broke the record for a women’s boxing fight. The Taylor-Serrano bout was watched by approximately 50 million households across the world. It became the most-watched women’s boxing bout in history.

But at 38 years old, Taylor has to decide if she wants to put herself through more wars. Reports indicate that she earned around $6 million for the Serrano fight, making it the highest purse she has received. She has become undisputed in two weight classes, meaning she has nothing else left to prove in the sport. Her only loss came against Cameron, which he avenged by beating her in the rematch. But for Serrano, those two defeats will haunt her, especially since she could have won on any other given day. But if anyone can bounce back, then it is Serrano.
