Alex Krassyuk: A Fight Date For Fury Vs. Usyk Will Be Announced Soon

In some top boxing news, a new date for the undisputed heavyweight championship fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will be announced soon.

That is according to Alex Krassyuk. Reports had initially indicated that December 23rd, 2023, would be the date of the fight provided that Fury overcame Francis Ngannou.

While Fury did overcome the former UFC heavyweight champion of the world, the fight was much tougher than expected. Ngannou continued to land clean shots on Fury, who was knocked down in the third round via a left hook.

Despite getting a split-decision victory, Fury was coy on when the undisputed fight would happen. That was significant since the boxer was adamant over the December date and even vowed to sue Usyk if he did not comply before the fight.

Fury Vs. Usyk

“Usyk’s a sausage. I expect it to be taking place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it. Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He signed the contract, so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued. So he doesn’t really have a choice,” Fury stated

Thereafter, Frank Warren cast doubt over the fight date as he expected the bout to occur in February. That did not sit very well with Usyk, as both men gave different narratives.

“Usyk got in the ring afterwards. That fight was signed and we were gonna do it on 23rd December. I doubt that will happen now because Tyson can’t be going into a camp after a tough fight like that having a week off. That’s eight weeks away. He needs a bit of time to get his body back into shape and let it heal before he gets back into camp. It’ll be on early next year.

“Riyadh Season finishes in March. It could be up until then. I told him to [have a rest]. He wanted to fight. I said, ‘Just go and have a break. You don’t have to make no decisions tonight. You do it to your agenda, not to everybody else’s,” Warren

“Uncle Frank [Warren] says some sneaky things. We have a contract that says the fight has to take place on Dec 23rd. “Let Fury vacate his title first, then he can take his rest. Tyson, we must fight, we must do it, Dec 23rd. See you in the ring,” Usyk

Krassyuk Responds

With that being said, this is what Krassyuk had to say.

“In the contract, it was December 23, but it’s a matter of common sense and common reason. If a fighter isn’t ready to go, you cannot make him. We would rather stay flexible, stay relaxed. We have settled already on the new date, and next week, we’re going to announce it; hopefully, of course. Yeah,” Krassyuk

This is the last thing that the boxing community needed, given that they have been waiting since 1999 to see the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. And now that wait will have to be longer.
