Woodley Claims GSP Ducked Him - 'I Would Have Beat His Brains In'

Tyron Woodley says Georges St-Pierre turned down the chance to fight him on more than one occasion, including a $7 million offer made last year.

Woodley has not had a UFC fight since 2021, when he lost to Vicente Luque at UFC 260. The former UFC Middleweight Champion left the organization on a poor run of form, as he suffered four consecutive defeats at the back end of his career. Since then, he has pursued two boxing fights against Jake Paul. He suffered a split decision loss in the first bout, which set up the narrative for the rematch. However, the rematch did not go Woodley’s way, as he was knocked out. Woodley has since then been looking for his next fight. He has been linked with several names.

Woodley’s Next Fight

Jake Paul has yet to make his PFL debut, with suggestions that Woodley could be the man to do it against. Paul signed with the PFL last year. However, he has been busy pursuing his boxing career. The Problem Child will box Mike Tyson this Friday in his next fight. However, PFL Chairman Donn Davis has recently revealed that he expects Paul to make his debut soon. Woodley has been mentioned as part of that, and Nate Diaz is another possible opponent.

Woodley also revealed that he was in talks to fight Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao has not boxed professionally since losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2021. Since then, he has had two exhibitions. He defeated DK Yoo via unanimous decision. He then took on Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo this year. However, Pacman looked far from his best as he was outboxed in their three-rounder. Woodley blamed Pacquiao for the fight not going ahead, suggesting that Manny simply wanted too much money. Now, it appears that GSP was the latest person to have turned him down.

Woodley On GSP

“Georges St-Pierre never wanted to fight me, I’ve asked Georges to fight me several times. I had an opportunity to fight him last year and the year before. It was a five to seven million dollar purse and he said no. In MMA. My middle east investor wanted the fight, seven million, but he said no. I would have beat his brains in,” Woodley said

GSP was linked with a return to fighting against Nick Diaz. However, the MMA fighter recently cancelled his return to professional grappling. He was linked with a fight against Nick Diaz at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational event last year. However, both suffered injuries as GSP knew his body could not handle the training.

“When I train for a fight everything needs to be perfect, I don’t cut corners, I go crazy. I put everything I can to be the best that I can, and I think that’s the reason I got hurt to tell you the truth. It’s like my body can’t keep up anymore.

“I can’t keep the same volume and intensity that I used to do when I was competing. For me, it needs to be done if I want to give the best and showcase the best of myself. But I can’t do it. I need to accept it, and it’s hard, but I made peace with it now,” GSP stated
