Will Ronda Rousey Return To The UFC?

Julianna Pena is hopeful that Ronda Rousey will grace the UFC once again.

Rousey’s last fight in the UFC occurred in 2016. It was not the best way to leave the sport, as she suffered a TKO loss to Amanda Nunes.

This was preceded by a stoppage defeat against Holly Holm in dramatic fashion.

Despite these setbacks, Rousey’s legacy in the sport remains significant, as she successfully defended her bantamweight title an impressive six times.

Therefore, Rousey does not have anything else to prove. And yet, speculation started emerging that she could make a return to the sport.

It started with Chelsea Chandler who mentioned a potential return to the featherweight division. This was followed by Holly Holm expressing her willingness to have a rematch.

“I’ve been hearing Ronda is coming back. I’ve heard she’s coming back at 145. You never know. […] If I get out there and put on the performance I plan on putting [on], I’ll welcome her to 145. I think it would be a great fight,” Chandler

Meanwhile, Pena’s last bout was a unanimous-decision defeat to Amanda Nunes at UFC 277 over a year ago which cost the star her bantamweight title.

Thereafter, Pena was in line to face Nunes in a trilogy. However, an injury forced Pena out as Irene Aldana stepped in.

Following Nunes’ retirement, the title became vacant. And given that Pena could fight for it, she is targeting a bout with Rousey.

“I was hopeful, I hope Ronda comes back. She’s another who’s had an ass-whooping coming to her for ten years, same as Raquel [Pennington].

So, let’s go! Sometimes [I watch Ronda in the WWE], but I don’t pay for cable so I don’t follow it that closely,” Pena

Regardless of whether Rousey comes back or not, Pena is in a prime position to fight for the title.

And if she does end up getting a shot at the vacant title, then a win could secure a bout with Rousey if there is enough demand for it.
