Will Fury Ever Recover From The Usyk Losses?

Tyson Fury lost for the second time against Oleksandr Usyk, leaving questions over his mental state of mind.
Usyk won more convincingly, grabbing a unanimous decision win: 116-112 on all the scorecards. This removed any doubts that may have existed over the result of the first fight. Usyk won that fight via a split decision, with Fury being adamant the Ukrainian only got the decision because of Russia’s war with Ukraine. This time around, Usyk silenced his critics. The boxing statistics showed he was the more accurate fighter. Usyk connected with 179 punches compared to Fury’s 142.
While Fury threw more at 509 compared to Usyk’s 423, he was not accurate enough. The fight also used AI scoring to remove any chances of controversy. The AI scoring system had it even wider for Usyk. It scored it 118-112 for Usyk. Fury cannot use any excuses for the loss this time around. His camp complained he could not spar properly for the first fight due to the cut he sustained in training over his eye. His coach, Andy Lee, confirmed as much. Fury also had the experience of sharing the full 12 rounds with Usyk, knowing what to expect.
But Fury’s camp has created the narrative that he was deprived of a win. Frank Warren has come out to say that he could not understand how Fury was not given the win. Bob Arum also had the fight in favor of Tyson. But those two do promote Fury, meaning any comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Tyson also admitted that it would be tough if he did not secure the knockout. He often referred to Usyk as a middleweight or a blown-up cruiserweight.
Fury’s Camp
And as someone who is 6ft 9 and outweighed Usyk by over 50 pounds, the Gypsy King only has himself to blame. He can no longer claim he is this era’s best heavyweight. He ultimately fell short of Usyk, like Anthony Joshua. While he does have the win over Wladimir Klitschko, so does Joshua. The Deontay Wilder wins look less impressive following The Bronze Bomber’s losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. The reaction to the loss from Fury’s camp shows they are struggling to deal with the reality of the result.
“I’m dumbfounded, they gave him four rounds out of the 12 rounds, it’s impossible, one judge didn’t give him any round from round six onwards. Only four rounds. Each of them gave him four rounds, four different rounds. How can that be? It’s impossible. It’s crazy. [And] It’s a nonsense. What fight were they watching? I’m not saying this because I’m biased, but everyone along the front there all thought it went the same way. It’s nuts. It’s nuts, I don’t get it. I’m really disappointed with that. I thought he was in control of the fight and boxed extremely well. Usyk was on the back foot for most of the fight, but it is what it is,” Warren said
