Wilder Still Wants An MMA Fight - 'I’m Serious About That'

Deontay Wilder has talked up his desire to fight in MMA once again.

The Bronze Bomber is currently preparing to face Joseph Parker on a massive card in Saudi Arabia on December 23rd, 2023. And provided that Wilder comes through that fight, then a bout against Anthony Joshua is seen as the next one. Eddie Hearn confirmed that a fight in the summer of 2024 was potentially in the works.

Although that may be the case, Wilder has also shown an interest in crossing over into MMA. Before Francis Ngannou faced Tyson Fury, Wilder was in talks with the former UFC heavyweight champion about a two-fight deal. One would have been in the sport of boxing, while the other fight would have seen Wilder make his MMA debut. And that desire to do so is still there as shown by Wilder’s following comments.

Wilder On MMA

“My thing is I’m trying to come into the UFC family. I’m looking to cross over and do both boxing and going to the UFC as well. I’m serious about that. I’ve been getting a lot of calls. …I can see myself doing both. Being since boxing is not going as fast as it should be or fighters fearing for themselves not to fight,” Wilder said

If that were to happen, then there is a chance that it does end up being Wilder’s last fight. Crossing over into the MMA world with no experience is a huge risk. And yet, such a fight would likely earn Wilder the biggest payday of his career. And with his right hand at his disposal, there is always a chance that Wilder does land the power shot.

Aside from potentially fighting Ngannou, Nate Diaz has also welcomed the idea of Wilder coming into MMA. So much so that Diaz was open to fighting the heavyweight. And yet, the chances of that happening were slim given the huge difference in weight between the pair. Diaz fights at 170 pounds, while Wilder is over 200 pounds. Regardless of who the opponent may be, Wilder’s focus was on fighting the best under any set of rules.

Wilder’s Plans

“You have a UFC fight where I know you ain’t got to worry about records, you ain’t gotta worry about managers or promotions or whatever,” Wilder said. “The best is going to fight the best, because Dana gonna make sure they get what they want. Like he said, it ain’t all about record. It’s about the best fighting the best.

“That’s where I want to be at. I got several years left in me to be able to do this. I just wanna run it all out.I want to squeeze it all out until my time is up. I got a lot to deal right now. I just want to benefit both worlds. Being champion in both of them, heavyweight champion in both of them, UFC and boxing,” Wilder
