Whittaker Stops Cameron In Style

Ben Whittaker secured a second-round stoppage victory against Liam Cameron to banish the demons from their first fight.
Whittaker had plenty to prove coming into this bout. He was accused of quitting in the first fight after the pair fell through the ropes. Cameron was able to continue, unlike Whittaker, who was accused of quitting. But this time around, Whittaker made no mistakes. Cameron’s plan was clear early on, as he landed some jabs on Whittaker in the opener. Ben was staying on the outside, letting his shots off on the counter.
That game plan paid off in the second round. Cameron let his right hand go, missing the target, which was punished. Whittaker responded with his right hand on the counter, which buzzed Cameron, who was on the ropes. Whittaker continued to throw as the referee stopped the fight. The stoppage was deemed too early by many observers, while Whittaker was also accused of spitting at Cameron’s corner after the win.

Reaction
“I should’ve done the 12, shouldn’t I? You heard everyone booing me, man, they portrayed me as a bad guy […] I was roaring like a lion, if a little bit of dribble came out, a little bit of dribble came out. Fair play to Liam, we hugged in the ring and he said, ‘No one’s ever hit me like that.’ […] I’m still flashy, I’m still swaggy, but [in the ring] I was very disciplined,” Whittaker said
“You had everyone boo me, they portray me as a bad guy. At the end of the day I work very hard.vI was roaring like a lion, if a little bit of dribble came out then a little bit of dribble came out. But at the end of the day Jesus is king,” Whittaker added
“It was emotion coming out. Frustration. Because of what he’s gone through, he’s been vilified. It’s him saying ‘I’m not washed up, everything you’ve said about me is complete rubbish. It’s human emotion,” Johnny Nelson revealed
“When you know what a good person Grant Smith is, I think it’s bang out of order. I think he’s very lucky he’s got Andy Lee in his corner, who spoke for him and took him over to Cameron’s corner,” Callum Simpson
