Whittaker Remains Confident Ahead Of Cameron Rematch – ‘Expect A Victory, Get Some Curry’

Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron held their media workouts ahead of their April 20 bout.
The build-up has produced mass controversy, with the fighters disputing whether the bout should be 10 or 12 rounds. Cameron’s team was pushing for 12, while Whittaker was sticking to 10. The pair finally agreed to a ten-rounder, putting an end to the saga.
“Update – Liam Cameron has come to an agreement with Boxxer and Ben Shalom make the fight with Ben Whittaker a ten round fight. “We are very happy with the new terms agreed & look forward to the fight on Sunday,” Lee Eaton (Cameron’s manager)
Whittaker has plenty of critics to prove wrong after the result of the first fight. It ended as a split-decision technical draw as the fight was stopped in the fifth round: 58-57, 57-58, and 58-58. This was after Whittaker could not continue after falling through the ropes with Cameron. The latter was fine to continue, leaving him aggrieved. He accused Whittaker of quitting, something Ben denied. The pair looked comfortable on the pads ahead of their rematch, as they had plenty to say.
Whittaker Reacts
“The Talking is done, it’s work time baby. It’s my hometown, near enough. I’m excited to show what we do. Yeah, it’s an amazing combination [with Andy Lee]. You just look at his resume, he was a world champion, he’s been in the camps with the Kronk fighters and it speaks for itself.
“We’ve got a great partnership, it’s like a father and son relationship and the structure, the camp—everything’s been there, so I’m excited. I expect a victory, then we’re going to get some curry goat straight after—looking forward to it. W, and then we’ll meet everybody backstage with some curry goat, plantain, dumplings, you know the scope. Looking forward to it.
“And for me, I’m the biggest wind-up merchant. So I know what he was trying to do. But like I said, amateur boxing is different. But I’ve been in many rematches before and for me, this is just another rematch, it’s another fight. The circumstances—what happened last time—we’ve not got them in this fight, so we’ll see,” Whittaker
Cameron Responds
“I can’t believe it finally took this long, but thank you everyone for coming out. It means a lot. I’ve learned a lot about myself in the last 6 months. I believe in myself. I know why I’m here, as a little kid picking that boxing news up at 9. [And] I pictured this moment, I prayed for these moments and now they are here. How can I complain? There’s a few people from Birmingham wanting me to win. May the best man win. My best version will be coming out and that’s all I pray for,” Cameron
