In some MMA news, Dana White has opened up on why Stipe Miocic was not put as the main event fighter following Jon Jones‘ withdrawal from UFC 295.

Bones was on course to face Miocic on November 11th, 2023, before withdrawing with an injury to his pec muscle. Thereafter, Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich was placed on the card as a c0-main event.

Meanwhile Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka was upgraded to main event. The decision to remove Miocic altogether raised some question marks over whether or not it was the right decision. After all, Miocic has not fought since his loss to Francis Ngannou in 2021. In response, this is what White had to say.

White On Miocic

“Stipe’s not fighting for an interim title. Jones said, ‘I want to fight Stipe. I said, ‘You’re fighting Stipe.’ You have the greatest heavyweight to all-time, versus the greatest martial artist of all time. This is a legacy fight for both of those guys. To even call Stipe and ask Stipe to fight for an interim title, is complete disrespect. This is a fight for two legends. Legacy. Two of the greatest to ever do it. The fans want to see it, I want to see it and they both want to do it,” White said

Meanwhile, Dana White has defended the UFC’s decision to bring ‘Bud Light’ back as its sponsor after claims that the deal was motivated by money. According to reports, the UFC has signed a six-year deal that is worth over $100 million.

That will start on January 1st, 2024. This raised criticism after the company had caused outrage amongst conservative groups after an ad campaign with the transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney for a ‘March Madness’ campaign.

Although that resulted in conservative groups from boycotting the company, White has had his own say on the matter.

White On Bud Light

“I have multiple (offers) in front of me. So it’s not like Bud Light showed up and they were the only option I had to get money. You know how f*cking stupid that is?  This was all about, and I said this yesterday and I’ll say it again, everybody on every side of this deal that were involved, other beer companies and everything else absolutely, positively know that this was not about money for me…I’m at a point in my life, and I’m at a point in my career, where nothing is just about money anymore,” White stated

As such, White pointed towards the positives that the brand has managed to achieve. This included giving back to the community via several projects that appealed to White, as part of the company’s wider brand that went beyond being a beer drink.

And that is ultimately something that swayed White in comparison to other brands. White’s following comments confirmed as much.

“I am a big military, law enforcement guy. (Bud Light has) these Folds of Honor where they’ve spent $44 million over the last however many years, fallen first responders and military people, their families get taken care of with this money, scholarships for their kids, etc. That is right up my alley. Almost $1 billion a year goes to U.S. farmers for their crops, for their products,” White
