What's Next For Tim Tszyu?

Tim Tszyu defeated Joey Spencer in their junior middleweight fight to bounce back to winning ways.

The win ended Tszyu’s two-fight losing streak, having previously come up short against Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev. The Australian lost his WBO belt to Fundora while also missing out on the vacant WBC title. The Murtazaliev loss prevented him from winning the IBF belt. Now, Tszyu can target the big names. He could chase the rematch with Fundora. The defeat was clouded by an accidental cut over Tszyu’s hairline early on in the fight. Tszyu was dominating before the cut as blood continued to pour out. Tszyu’s team could arguably have called for the fight to be stopped. The failure to do so meant Tszyu was not on his A-game, as he came out second best.

There is also the chance to call out Errol Spence Jr. The latter has not been in the ring since his 2023 loss to Terence Crawford. The defeat meant he missed out on the Undisputed Welterweight Title. Spence did not get the rematch, with suggestions that he would fight at 154. He has not announced his retirement, as speculation still persists over his return. Spence was linked with the Fundora fight, but it did not materialize, giving Tszyu the opportunity.

Tszyu Vs. Thurman

There is also the chance to face off against Keith Thurman. The latter stopped Brock Jarvis in his last fight to mark an impressive return to the sport. That was Thurman’s first win since 2022 when he defeated Mario Barrios. Thurman was meant to face Tszyu in 2023, only to pull out with a bicep injury. Now, there is a narrative in place to run things back. Tim called him out after his win over Spencer.

“No pressure. I couldn’t do a third consecutive loss. I hope I teach people that if they drop and shit hits the fan, they can always get back up. In all honesty, it was the critics, they’re always going to be there but for me, it was proving it to myself and I proved it to everyone in the world – I’m back, baby. I learned from my mistakes, you don’t go in like a hot head from the first round and just abandon everything.

“There was a bit of pressure! I couldn’t do a third consecutive loss. I hope I teach people that if they drop to the floor, they can always rise back to the top. The critics are always going to be there. I proved it to everyone in the world. I’m back, baby. I’m back!. Sign the contract, big boy. Sign the contract. If the fans want it, we can bring a mega-show to Australia,” Tszyu said
