Charles Oliveira returned to winning ways to beat Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Rio, as we look at what is next for him.

Oliveira submitted his man in the second round to put the Ilia Topuria defeat behind him at UFC 317. Charles also put the worries about the turnaround time behind him, since the Topuria KO loss was just in June. Naturally, the attention has turned towards who is next for Charles. Following his win, Charles called out BMF Champion Max Holloway.

“I’m trying to hold back the tears right now. This is all for you guys. It’s not about money, fame, status or anything. Screw it, this is Brazil. Hey [UFC executive] Hunter [Campbell], Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway, BMF — let’s make that happen,” Oliveira said

“I’m interested. We’ve been talking about this fight. Me and him have a history. He’s blaming it on some type of injury. I guess we get to figure it out now. Can you imagine? I don’t know if I want to wait that long, but we’ll see what happens. We’ll see what happens. Never say never,” Holloway stated

The Holloway fight is a chance for a true resolution, as their first fight in 2015 ended prematurely due to a shoulder injury suffered by Oliveira just over a minute into the first round. Holloway is also coming off a victory over Dustin Poirier to win the BMF belt, giving Oliveira a chance to secure a title.

Oliveira could also face Arman Tsarukyan. A rematch with Tsarukyan, who has defeated Oliveira, would serve as a high-stakes gatekeeper bout for the next title shot. Arman has not fought since beating Charles at UFC 300. However, he is scheduled to take on Dan Hooker in his next fight. Charles could target the winner of that bout.

Alternatively, the UFC could rebook the fight against Rafael Fiziev, who was originally scheduled to face Oliveira at UFC Rio before pulling out with an injury. Fiziev is a powerful striker, who would guarantee a stand-up war. Either way, Oliveira has plenty to ponder.
