WBA President Demands Davis Vs. Roach Rematch

Gervonta Davis continues to suffer criticism after his controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach, with The WBA President Gilberto Mendoza demanding a rematch.
Tank avoided the first defeat of his career after the referee failed to give Roach a 10-8 round once Davis took a knee in round nine. Tank made the decision to take a knee before going to his corner to wipe some grease from his eye. The referee should have started counting, which would have given Roach the win on two scorecards.
That would have made Roach a two-weight champion with Davis’ WBA belt. This has increased the demand for a rematch, with many feeling Roach was robbed. But Tank has said he does not want the rematch next, preventing Roach from getting revenge. However, if the WBA President has anything to go by, he wants the rematch.
WBA Reacts
“I think it’s not going to be no doubt about having a rematch on this… I think this supersedes the public perception of boxing involved here with a huge star for the sport and we need to send a strong message out there. … It was a very controversial night. Maybe [Willis] saw a competitive fight. Maybe he saw it wasn’t a punch, but how can you understand how he put the knee on the canvas?,” Mendoza said
Ryan Garcia was another vocal critic of what had happened. He took his anger out on the New York Commission for not overturning the result. Garcia received a year ban from the Commission after he tested positive for Ostarine after his win over Devin Haney. The news meant Garcia’s win became a no-contest, preventing his biggest career victory.
Garcia On Davis
Ryan will make his comeback against Rolando Romero in May, knowing a win sets up a possible Haney rematch. Ryan’s case could arguably be seen as different since he had PEDs in his system. However, if the goal is to make the right decision, then Ryan has a point. Garcia was concerned about the ‘double standards’ in boxing.
“What I’m wondering is if the commission only makes changes when you complain and cry like Haney or they actually care about the integrity of the sport! Nothing against tank but since the commission switches my victory they should switch this victory for roach. They won’t tho bc they were out to get me from the beginning.
“I ain’t no hater either, I like tank I think he’s a great fighter he had an off night and Lamont fought great! Simple But I’m tired of the inconsistency in boxing it’s weird I had the ref save Haney from getting stopped, never called Haney for holding on for dear life And took a point away from me with no warning. And then this made up story of me having ostarine came up. It’s just [rubbish]. All this [rubbish] just angers the [hell] outta me and ima take it out of rollys,” Garcia said
