Warren Teases Big February Fight For Dubois

Frank Warren has hinted at a big fight for Daniel Dubois in February as we look at his resume.

Dubois is the current IBF Heavyweight Champion, a belt he defended successfully by knocking out Anthony Joshua in the fifth round. It was the best win of his career, having sent Joshua to the canvas four times to cause a major upset. The win showed his remarkable rise through the sport. He went to the boxing gym at nine, as his father wanted to keep him out of trouble. During the early part of his career, he had approximately 75 amateur fights. He won two junior ABAs. Dubois eventually joined the team GB set up. He competed in the European Youth Championships.

Dubois’ Rise

He won gold in Finland and Germany. He was also part of the Olympic team, with the aim of competing in Tokyo 2020. But Dubois decided to turn professional, as he signed with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. He made his pro debut against Marcus Kelly in 2017, stopping him in the first round. He made his way through the ranks before stopping Tom Little for the English Heavyweight Title. The WBO European Title followed with a win against Razvan Cojanu. In 2019, Dubois won the British Heavyweight Title by stopping Nathan Gorman.

He would eventually face the big names. Daniel suffered his first loss against Joe Joyce, getting stopped in the tenth round. He took a knee with suggestions he quit, although he did break his orbital bone. Dubois then won four on the spin before losing Oleksandr Usyk in controversial circumstances. He dropped Usyk in the fifth round with a body shot. But it was controversially deemed a low blow as the Ukrainian would stop him in the ninth round. Dubois missed out on the WBA Heavyweight Title.

Warren On Dubois

His team appealed to the WBA to get the result turned into a contest, which would then allow a rematch. However, it was to no avail, as Dubois had to rebuild himself. There were suggestions he quit after failing to get up from the count quickly enough. But that would be the making of Dubois. He racked up stoppage wins against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and then Joshua to announce himself on the world stage. Now, Warren wants to put him in a big fight in February.

“We are working on a deal and getting it over the line. We are close, and I’m sure we will do that. But until the contracts are signed, we can’t say anything. Daniel’s next fight will be a very big one for him. He’s now captured everyone’s imagination, and everyone wants to see him fight again. Daniel’s next opponent will be against someone of a Joseph Parker standing. It will be someone coming in as a winning fighter at Daniel’s level and form. It will be a great fight for Daniel. Joe Parker’s name is on the list, and that is the level of form and quality we are looking at,” Warren said
