Warren Slammed For Saying Fury Beat Usyk

Frank Warren has given a different take on the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch.
Usyk defeated Fury again to retain his unified heavyweight title. It was the second time the Ukrainian overcame Fury in a year, the results of which frustrated Fury’s camp. Fury was adamant in the first fight that he had won. He felt Usyk got the decision because of Russia’s war with Ukraine. Fury was equally frustrated with the scoring in the second fight, as he walked out of the ring without giving a post-fight interview. Warren could not understand how Usyk was given seven straight rounds. But the scoring statistics showed that Usyk was the far better fighter.
He outlanded Fury with 179 punches compared to The Gypsy King’s 144. While Fury threw more at 503 compared to Usyk’s 423, the output was not enough to determine the winner. Fury was simply missing more punches. The AI scoring system, the first time it was ever used in boxing history, also had Usyk winning. The AI scored it much wider, with Usyk coming out on top with a 118-112 scorecard.
Warren labelled the result a robbery. Usyk reacted to Warren’s perception, claiming that ‘Uncle Frank is blind.’ Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, also said the Ukrainian has nothing else to prove to put him down as one of the best. While Warren is still sticking to his guns and saying that Fury had won the fight, he admits it was much closer than he thought it was. Perhaps this is the closest that Warren will come to admitting that Fury may have come up short.
Warren Reacts
“I thought it was a closer fight on TV than what I’ve seen there, but I still think Tyson just won it. Not nicked it, I think it was a close fight, and that’s how I scored it. I don’t change my mind about the judge’s scorecards, which was my beef. [And] I wasn’t moaning about the result of the fight, I was moaning about the way they scored it.
“I don’t see how one judge didn’t give Tyson a single round for the last seven rounds, that is impossible. I watched that back, and I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve seen it and I don’t know how he got it. Usyk didn’t win the last seven rounds of that fight, that’s for sure. These two are always going to have a close fight. The last one was a close fight,” Warren said
Warren has seen his biggest star lose twice. Fury is clearly on the decline, with the only major fight out there being the Anthony Joshua bout. That has a lot more riding on it now. They both have wins over Wladimir Klitschko, who is arguably their best. They both have two defeats to Usyk, meaning the fight may decide the best heavyweight between them. Since Fury and Joshua are not at their peaks, the loser knows their legacy could change forever.
