Warren On Fury's Retirement - 'I Want Him To Be Happy'

Frank Warren wants to see Tyson Fury remain happy following his retirement.

His comments were made after the pair were spotted at Derek Chisora’s fight against Otto Wallin. Chisora dropped Wallin twice to win a unanimous decision as Fury watched his close friend secure another win. Fury announced his retirement shortly after losing to Oleksandr Usyk in the rematch. That was a second consecutive defeat to the Ukrainian, as he missed out on becoming undisputed and the unified heavyweight champion. Fury was unhappy with the decisions, feeling he had done enough in both fights to get the victory. Fury’s retirement meant it ended any hopes of making the Anthony Joshua fight.

“The judges gave him a Christmas gift. I feel like I won both fights. I know I had to knock him out but it’s boxing and this happens. There is no doubt in my mind I won this fight. Frank [Warren] had me three or four rounds up and a lot of people had me up by at least two. I’m not going to cry over spilled milk, it’s over now. I’ve been in boxing my whole life but I’ll always feel a little bit hard done by – not a little bit, a lot,” Fury said after the second loss.

Warren was seen alongside Fury, and the pair looked very cordial. The Queensberry promoter admitted that he did not talk about boxing with the Gypsy King. Instead, he checked on how Fury was feeling, saying the Gypsy King was in a good place. Fury has secured his financial future from the sport with the two Usyk fights. Reports indicate he earned over $100 million combined, meaning he does not need to make a comeback unless he wants to.

Warren Reacts

The only big fight out there for Fury is the Joshua fight. Joshua is not in the best form, having been knocked out by Daniel Dubois in his last fight. But their respective fanbase wants to see the fight. Fans already missed out on seeing Joshua face Deontay Wilder when they were at their peak. And it looks like it could be the same situation again if Fury remains retired. Warren said he was happy to see Fury doing well. He would support him, whatever decision he made.

“I asked him: ‘What’s it like wearing the old slippers around the house?’ and he’s happy. He’s in a good place and I didn’t talk about boxing. I’m not doing that. I’m happy, if he’s happy. It’s not just me in the boxing business, he’s a friend and I want him to be happy. Look what he’s done in the game. He’s gone to the other guys’ backyards, won world titles, spectacular fights.

“Look at the fights he’s had, the trilogy of fights he’s had with [Deontay] Wilder, brilliant fights, going into [Wladimir] Klitschko’s backyard, doing a job there, some fabulous, fabulous fights. Great fights with Usyk. Really, really good quality fights. The two best heavyweights of the 21st century. He’s done everything you can ask of him,” Warren said
