Warren Claims Fury-Usyk May Now Happen Next Year, The Ukrainian Responds

In today’s boxing news, Frank Warren has stated that the undisputed clash between Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk could be pushed back until 2024.
The comments arrived in the aftermath of Fury’s controversial split-decision win over Francis Ngannou. Despite being given the win, members of the boxing community suggested that Ngannou should have come out victorious.
But in any event, the damage that Fury had suffered in the fight was telling. A cut above Fury’s eye in the second round showed Ngannou’s power. Meanwhile, a left hook in the third round on the back of the head sent Fury to the canvas.
And since the Gypsy King will need to be in top condition and form to take on Oleksandr Usyk, a December 23rd fight date may now be off the table.
Warren On Usyk
“Usyk got in the ring afterwards. That fight was signed and we were gonna do it on 23rd December. I doubt that will happen now because Tyson can’t be going into a camp after a tough fight like that having a week off. That’s eight weeks away. He needs a bit of time to get his body back into shape and let it heal before he gets back into camp. It’ll be on early next year.
“Riyadh Season finishes in March. It could be up until then. I told him to [have a rest]. He wanted to fight. I said, ‘Just go and have a break. You don’t have to make no decisions tonight. You do it to your agenda, not to everybody else’s,” Warren
Nevertheless, prior to the fight, Fury was adamant that December would be the fight date. So much so that the Gypsy King alleged that Usyk would be in breach of contract if he did not commit to it.
“Usyk’s a sausage. I’m expecting it to take place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it for sure. Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He’s signed a contract so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued, so doesn’t really have a choice,” Fury
Usyk On Fury
Those comments were in response to suggestions that Usyk may not be ready, given the need to ideally have a 14-week training camp. And yet, the Ukrainian is looking to hold Fury to his word by demanding that they fight, or that the Gypsy King vacate his belt.
“Uncle Frank [Warren] says some sneaky things. We have a contract that says the fight has to take place on Dec 23rd. “Let Fury vacate his title first, then he can take his rest. Tyson, we must fight, we must do it, Dec 23rd. See you in the ring,” Usyk
In addition, Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk echoed the sentiments of his fighter by highlighting how the date must go ahead, given the Gypsy King’s decision to sign the contract.
“Everyone, including Usyk, did not give much chance to Ngannou. But the man has shocked the world. Fury underestimated his opponent. Arrogance, lack of discipline, and thirst for money lead to these kind of circumstances. But we have December 23 inked and Fury cannot escape that,” Krassyuk
So, moving forward, there are still a few issues that need resolving. But if Fury does not go through with the bout in December, boxing fans will no doubt be disappointed to see the fight delayed.
