Warren Believes That A Fury-Ngannou Rematch Is Likely

Frank Warren is confident that fans will see a rematch between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou

The two fighters faced off on October 28th, 2023, for a crossover fight where Ngannou made his boxing debut. The fight was expected to be one-way traffic, with Ngannou putting up a very little threat, only for that not to materialize. Instead, the former UFC heavyweight champion dropped Fury in round three as he continued to pile on the pressure until the end.

Despite losing via a split decision, there were suggestions by some in the boxing community that Ngannou had been robbed. Carl Froch, Chris Eubank Jr, and Carl Frampton had all given the decision in favor of Ngannou. In the aftermath, Ngannou made it clear that he was looking for a rematch. And now that narrative has been put in place for it to happen.

Fury-Ngannou Rematch

“I think there’s a good chance of that happening. I do. I don’t know [if it’ll be next for Fury]. It’s like jumping too far forward. Let’s get the big one [with Oleksandr Usyk on Feb. 17] out of the way first, and then we’ll see where we go. But I do think [it’ll happen].

“Tyson told me that he wants the rematch, and I know Ngannou wants it, because after the fight we were out there, we met at His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh]’s house and we had quite a lengthy conversation. He’s a nice guy, by the way. He’s a really nice guy, good team around him, and I’m quite sure we’ll do it again,” Warren said

In addition, Warren has explained Fury’s verbal outbursts towards Oleksandr Usyk during their first presser.

Fury On Usyk

The two fighters will face each other on February 17th, 2024, for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. The news came after the fight had been teased for a prolonged period of time. It was initially suggested that a fight could take place in April at Wembley. However, talks broke down despite Usyk agreeing to a 70-30 split due to differences over the rematch clause.

Thereafter, a date for December 23rd, 2023, was agreed only for that to be pushed back. Fury’s fight with Francis Ngannou was tougher than expected, which is why the turnaround time was not enough to make the fight happen. And those obstacles resulted in a lot of frustration, which was shown by Fury in the presser as he began to fire verbal shots at the Ukrainian.

“Look the last time we signed for it last year, it was them who pulled out,. Tyson’s very frustrated. I think that frustration boiled over at the press conference in as much as, this has been a real irritant, everyone saying ‘why isn’t this going on.’ We knew what the real truth was behind the scenes, fact is – it’s on. Tyson will be there on the 17th, and I’m quite sure Oleksandr will be there too, and I think we’re going to get something a little bit special,” Fury stated
