Volkanovski Backs Adesanya To Beat Strickland
Alexander Volkanovski, the current UFC featherweight champion, has backed Israel Adesanya to prove too much for Sean Strickland.
The UFC middleweight champion, Adesanya, will be making the first defence of his title for the first time following his win over Alex Pereira at UFC 293 on September 9th, 2023.
Although that may be the case, the fight with Strickland was not initially entertained. Adesanya seemed likely to have faced Dricus du Plessis.
However, the South African failed to overcome a foot issue which prevented him from getting ready. So in stepped Strickland, who is seen as the heavy underdog.
The latest odds by BetMGM have placed Strickland at +600. Meanwhile, Adesanya is a huge favorite at -425, as Volkanovski saw nothing else but an Adesanya win.

“I think it’s a great fight for him. Obviously, Sean is going to talk, Sean is going to try and get under his skin. That’s going to make it fun. But I feel Izzy is going to really, really put it on him – especially with the talk that’s going to happen. I think Sean Strickland is going to definitely pay for some of the things he’s going to say. Stylistically, I feel like he’s going to definitely get hurt,” Volkanovski
Pereira On Adesanya
Victory for Adesanya will be key, as it opens up the door for other fights of a big nature. Du Plessis would most likely be the next opponent. However, Pereira has also spoken about wanting to run things back in what would be a massive trilogy.
“I went up to light heavyweight now. I want to do one more fight at light heavyweight, take some time from all those cuts, and then I actually want to fight in the lower weight class again, middleweight. Because in my mind we are 1-1 at middleweight. I won one at middleweight, Israel won the other one, so nothing more fair than making the trilogy at middleweight,” Pereira
