Usyk Warns Fury – ‘I Have Been Preparing For Him From The Very Beginning’
Oleksandr Usyk has warned Tyson Fury that he has been preparing for the Gypsy King since he turned professional.
The Ukrainian admitted that Fury came on his radar when he beat Wladimir Klitschko. The Gypsy King became the Unified Heavyweight Champion by getting a win in the Ukrainian’s backyard. The victory ended Klitschko’s supreme dominance as the former champion never managed to secure the rematch and avenge that loss.
Since then, Usyk has been making his legacy, working his way up the ranks to become a serious threat. He became the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion of the world. That feat was followed up by becoming the Unified Heavyweight Champion of the world. On his way to those feats, he beat Tony Bellew at cruiserweight. He also got two wins over Anthony Joshua to become the Unified Heavyweight Champion of the world. That then led to the Fury-Usyk fight, which took place on February 17, 2024. Now, the Ukrainian is ready to deliver.
Usyk On Fury
“I’ve been preparing for this fight for a few years now, since he beat Wladimir. He didn’t know about me back then because I wasn’t famous in the world of boxing, but I have been preparing for him and Anthony Joshua from the very beginning. Since I started professional boxing,” Usyk said
Nevertheless, Fury’s comments suggested that he is not worried about the threat that the Ukrainian will pose. Fury’s last outing against Francis Ngannou did not show him in the best positive light. He was troubled by the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, who sent him to the canvas in the third round. Fury struggled to work his opponent out as Ngannou continued to come forward.
Fury managed to win, but the performance raised many questions about his conditioning. Following the win, there were suggestions that Fury may have overlooked Ngannou. The Gypsy King shut down that accusation, yet he has claimed he only needs five weeks to prepare for Usyk. Those comments may be Fury playing mind games. Otherwise, he may find himself in for a tough night.
Fury Reacts
“I train four or five weeks for these fights. Please, like I trained 12 weeks for Wilder and everybody else! Four or five weeks, how much training does a man need? Three or four weeks of sparring and one week of resting, done. We’ve been boxing for all of our lives since young boys, how much training do we need? I’m sure we aren’t going to forgot how to box and it’s not a fitness competition is it, so I don’t think you need anymore than five weeks,” Fury stated
With boxing having yet to have an Undisputed Champion since 1999, the pressure is on both fighters to make history. Lennox Lewis, the last man to become undisputed at heavyweight, will reportedly be in attendance, making the fight a battle between the two best heavyweights of this era.
