Usyk Wants The Best Fury; Happy To Give Him A Rematch

Oleksandr Usyk wants to face the best version of Tyson Fury and is happy to give him a rematch.

That is according to the Ukrainian’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk. The two boxers are on course to face each other on February 17th, 2024. The winner will become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Both boxers are undefeated as Usyk arrives with his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO belts.

Meanwhile, Fury holds the last piece of the puzzle in the form of the WBC belt. A win for Usyk makes him a two-weight undisputed champion after having done it at cruiserweight. As for Fury, a victory would cap off a remarkable career in becoming undisputed for the first time.

However, there are concerns over Fury’s mindset heading into the fight. The pair had initially agreed to face each other on December 23rd, 2023. However, the date was pushed back after Fury’s fight against Francis Ngannou.

In a fight that was expected to be a routine win, Fury had to get off the canvas in round three against an MMA fighter who was making his boxing debut. This raised suggestions that the ‘Gypsy King’ may have overlooked his opponent. Despite that being the case, Usyk is prepared for the best version of Fury.

Krassyuk Reacts

“I can’t argue with Tyson that it is up to God who the winner is but Usyk is made different and is the former undisputed cruiserweight champion and unified heavyweight champion but is so humble with it. But I know Tyson can overcome his arrogance and become a student in the training camp and it is something we want. We want this fight to be a horrendous fight, a hard fight and to overcome a Tyson Fury at his best because the value of the victory becomes so high,” Krassyuk said

The fight does include a two-way rematch clause. This would allow either fighter to exercise it in case of a defeat. However, there is a chance that the rematch may not be for undisputed. The IBF have already ruled that the winner must defend their belts against the IBF mandatory Filip Hrgovic.

Fury Rematch

The latter has made it clear that he does not intend to take any step aside money, as the focus is on becoming a champion. Therefore, unless the rematch is delayed, the winner of Fury and Usyk would be stripped if they didn’t defend against the Croatian. Regardless of what the case may be, Usyk was ready to give Fury a rematch.

“Yes, we have discussed that in any case, when you have a blockbuster fight you have to see the sequel. We are dealing with Tyson Fury and sometimes a bad day comes, even two times in a row, and a man who can complain about. But Oleksandr will happily give him a rematch,” Krassyuk stated

A victory makes one boxer the best heavyweight of this era, which is why everything is on the line. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com’
