Oleksandr Usyk stopped Daniel Dubois in the ninth round after overcoming some serious adversity to retain his WBA, WBO and IBF titles.

The Ukrainian was in complete control during the fight only to be asked serious questions in the fifth round. A right hook landed on Usyk to the body, which sent the Ukrainian to the floor as he was in clear pain.

Although that may have been the case, it was classed as a low blow with Usyk being given over three minutes to recover.

Usyk Stop Dubois

But on closer inspection, some within the boxing community felt Dubois was hard done by as the blow appeared to land on the belt line.

In the aftermath, Dubois never looked the same as Usyk stepped on the gas. And it all came to a head in the eighth round, as the Ukrainian sent Dubois to the canvas with numerous combinations.

But before the fight could end, Dubois was saved by the bell. That did nothing to stop the inevitable, as Usyk stopped Dubois in the next round with a straight right to the chin as the Brit could not get up.

Dubois’ Post-Fight Comments

“I didn’t think it was a low blow, I’ve been cheated out of victory. What else can I say? I’ve been cheated out, but I’ve got to come again,” Dubois

Usyk’s Post-Fight Comments

“I‘m ready tomorrow. Listen, I’m ready. Next fight I’m ready to fight Tyson Fury. Will Tyson Fury? I have no idea. I can’t wait to see my children and be back home. I’ve been training a long time. I’m a little bit tired,” Usyk

Anderson Stops Rudenko

Meanwhile, Jared Anderson secured a fifth-round TKO win over Andriy Rudenko in a dominant performance. The heavyweight made a quick start to the fight, as the difference in power was telling.

A right hand at the end of the round buckled Rudenko somewhat, as the 39-year-old was out of his depth. After all, he was making his American debut.

The following rounds told the same story, as Anderson’s attack to the body outlined his plans to slow down the Ukrainian.

This was typified in the third round with the American landing eight straight shots to the body, as Rudenko felt the pace. As the Ukrainian slowed down, the fight was over in a matter of minutes.

With Rudenko on the ropes, Anderson responded with shots to the body with his right and left hand. The Ukrainian had nowhere to turn, as the referee ended his misery with a stoppage.

Post-Fight Comments

“I’m enjoying the ride, enjoying the fights, and just doing my job. (Body shots) were part of the plan. We know you gotta start with the body and the head will fall. It worked.

“I was sending a statement to myself. I fight for myself and my family. If people want to hate on me for it, I’m a realist, and I’m going to stay real. I’m going to say what’s on my mind. Y’all can take it how you want, this is a business.

“This is a sport. I’m just doing my job. Take it how you want, but you can’t force me or want me to be somebody y’all want me to be. I’m gonna be myself and be that until the end,” Anderson
