Usyk Gets Klitschko's 'Secret' Advice On Beating Fury

Oleksandr Usyk has spoken to Wladimir Klitschko about how to defeat Tyson Fury.

Fury faced Klitcshko as a massive underdog but shocked the world to become the Unified Heavyweight Champion with a unanimous decision win. Fury outboxed the heavyweight in his backyard with his awkward boxing style. While Klitschko did land his right hand on The Gypsy King, Fury stood up to everything that came his way.

Before the build-up, Fury had gotten into Klitschko’s head. He recalled a story about outlasting Wladimir in a sauna, saying it gave him a mental victory. Fury also dressed up as Batman at the presser, beating someone dressed up as Joker, before stating that would be Klitschko next.

Those mind games played a crucial role in unsettling Klitschko. Uysk is also known for getting into people’s heads, which is why the fight is so intriguing. To give himself the best shot of winning, Usyk has spoken to Klitschko about the difficulties he could face.

Uysk On Fury

“Wladimir has given me advice, but now it’s secret. Not if, when [I win]. I want to do a fight in Ukraine at the big stadium, Olimsky. My goal is to make a fight in a stadium. I think I do it. If I can do a KO, I do. If I can do 12 rounds. My goal is to win,” Usyk said

Usyk will look to test Fury’s cut over his right eye. He pulled out of their February 17 date after suffering a cut over his right eye in sparring. That caused the blood to flow extensively, as the fight was rescheduled for May 18. Reports indicate that the cut would ideally be healed in June. Usyk could base his game plan on trying to reopen the cut, forcing Fury into a bad position.

There are also doubts that Fury’s legs have gone. His fight against Francis Ngannou hinted at that. He was dropped in the third round, getting hit numerous times as he struggled against an MMA fighter. While he got the split decision win, there were suggestions that Ngannou had been robbed. Usyk is known for setting a fast pace and finishing strongly in the later rounds. However, Roy Jones Jr. felt that Usyk needed to have more power in order to win. Jones felt Fury may not respect him if he is to walk through his punches.

Roy Jones Reacts

“Usyk is a great tactician, but he’s not all that explosive,” Roy Jones Jr. told Talksport. If he was explosive, it would be a problem. When you are smaller coming up to the big guys, you’ve got to bring explosives to the ring, or they won’t respect you. If he can’t find those explosives before that fight takes place, he will not beat Tyson Fury; I don’t care what they say,” Jones stated

Both men are undefeated, showing the winner will become the best of their era. While Fury was seen as the slight favorite, the cut over his eye has made it a 50-50 fight. But Klitschko’s advice could prove pivotal.
