In the latest boxing news, Oleksandr Usyk broke down in tears while speaking about the death of his father in a frank interview.

The current unified heavyweight champion is on the verge of creating history after having agreed to face Tyson Fury for the chance to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

However, prior to that, Usyk had already achieved the feat at cruiserweight. But the journey to reach the pinnacle of the sport has not been an easy one.

The Ukrainian has shown that he is willing to face fighter’s in their own backyard to secure the belts. The win over Anthony Joshua was indicative of that. And yet, Usyk also has had to deal with tough challenges outside of the ring. And after having watched Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou, Usyk felt his father would have been proud of his achievements.

Usyk On His Father

“When I was standing among these superstars – I spoke to Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, all these stars – I was thinking about my dad and I thanked him. I knew he was watching down on me. He watched me become Olympic champion, but I didn’t make it back in time to show him the gold medal. When I arrived he was already lying in the coffin. I handed him the medal, put it in his dead hand and then left the room. Sometimes he comes to me the day before the fight. Don’t cry, you’re a man [Usyk said to himself],” Usyk said

Benn On Eubank

Meanwhile, Conor Benn was equally emotional about his desire to fight Chris Eubank Jr. The two fighter’s have developed some bad blood following Benn’s two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene.

As a result, their initial fight was called off with Benn being suspended by UKAD. Despite his suspension being removed by the National Anti-Doping Agency, the nature of Benn’s defense appears to be jurisdiction.

As such, UKAD and the BBBofC have appealed it as Benn must undergo a hearing. In the meantime, Benn is technically allowed to box outside of the UK as shown by his return fight against Rodolfo Orozco.

the Brit beat the latter via a unanimous decision. And provided that Benn is cleared to fight in the UK, he was still targeting Eubank Jr.

“Eubank Jr is the name everybody wants. Eubank’s name holds weight but I’m not really interested in Eubank’s nephew, to be honest. It’s just about going out there and settling the beef that needs settling with Chris. And that’s all that matters, all the public wants. It’s in demand….It’s agreed, my end. We’re ready to go. As for who ring walks second and first, and name first, second — it doesn’t really matter. For me, getting in there 160 is no problem. I don’t want to hear no excuses once he gets his a** handed to him. This is a fight that keeps lingering around so I just need to settle the score with this man and put this to bed, and put him to bed, tuck him in nicely,” Benn stated
