Usyk Confronts A Nervous Fury During Final Presser - '

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s final presser took place ahead of their Undisputed Heavyweight Clash on May 18, with the Gypsy King refusing to look at Usyk during their face-off.

The winner becomes boxing’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield to become the best of his era. Lewis has picked Tyson to win this fight, but in truth, there is very little to choose between them. Both are undefeated. Fury has every belt at heavyweight, but he has never won them simultaneously to become undisputed. Usyk has become undisputed at cruiserweight. He hopes to replicate this at heavyweight, with Fury’s WBC belt the final piece.

Usyk is known for being very calm during the build-up. Once John Fury head-butted a member of his team during fight week, Usyk refused to let that get to him. He condemned the actions, calling it ‘bad behavior.’ However, he refused to retaliate in kind, with Fury struggling to get under his skin.

Fury may say he is confident about his chances. But during the build-up, he has been seen looking nervous and sweating more than usual. There are also question marks that Fury may have overtrained, losing more weight than usual. He was a career-lightest against Otto Wallin, the same fight where he struggled despite getting the win after suffering a big cut. Will he come in lighter?

Mind Games

“I’m living in his mind rent-free, for sure. People say, ‘You can’t get in his mind.’ I’m already in his mind. He thinks about me every time he gets up in the morning. Every time he closes his eyes, his heart beats out of his body, thinking about the Gypsy King. Every time he brushes his teeth or…[goes to the toilet] he thinks about me and my fat body, and he knows I’m coming for him. I’m in his mind rent-free; I’m living in his head,” Fury stated

“I really don’t think about Tyson Fury. I don’t look at the way he acts and what he does. Most of his opponents fell for it. I don’t. For me, I focus on how I am, and how I prepare for when I go into the ring.  Me and my trainer have watched his fights. We are preparing for everything. We have to watch what he is doing. I don’t care about what Fury thinks about me. He can underestimate. He can overestimate me. I don’t care. I have my plans for him. [And] I have advantages over him that he does not know about,” Usyk said
