USA Boxing Slammed For New Transgender Policy For 2024

USA Boxing has been heavily criticized after the news of their new ‘Transgender Policy’.

According to the initiative, it will enable male boxers who have decided to transition to be able to fight in women’s boxing in 2024. To be able to do that, certain conditions have to be met. If the boxers are still under 18, they will have to fight under the gender they were born with. Outside of that, the following conditions have to be met.

This includes having gender reassignment surgery, hormone testing, as well as expressing their gender. The testing for hormones has to be done every three months, and evidence of this must be provided to USA Boxing for at least four years after surgery. This means that the level of testosterone in those who have transitioned from male to female has to be under five nmol/L for at least four years before their first competition. Those levels must remain under five nmol/L for the whole period to be recognized as female.

“The purpose of this policy is to provide fairness and safety for all boxers. USA Boxing has determined this policy based on the November 2021 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Framework on Fairness, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sex Variations, which remits each sport and its governing body to determine how an athlete may be at a disproportionate advantage compared with their peers, taking into consideration the nature of each sport,” USA Boxing

Boxing Reacts

The decision has gotten the attention of high-profile boxers from men’s and women’s boxing, with criticism from both sides.

“This is wrong on so many levels. I will never agree to this… it’s bad enough having trans women breaking records in other sports like track and field, swimming and powerlifting but it’s a bit different to them breaking our skulls in combat sports where the aim is to HURT YOU not just break a record…however I think it’s wrong in ALL SPORT… I have nothing against trans but can’t be skewing the line in sport…. You don’t see reference or debates for transmen in sport… cos it’s not a threat.

“It ain’t just about the test levels what about their bone density and a heap of other biological factors. Cutting your bits off and adding boobs won’t take back the masculine maturity your body has gone thru before you decided you are now a woman. #ISaidWhatISaid,” Eddie Bridges

“It should never happen on anybody’s watch. It’s a man, basically, beating up a woman. Don’t care if they’ve transgendered into a woman, and they now think they’re a woman, and they’re taking drugs to lower their testosterone intake. They’re stronger, they’re more powerful. Not all of them, you get some masculine women, that’s fine. If you get some feminine men, that’s fine.

“But we’re talking about trans women. A man born a man with the XY chromosome fighting a woman, who’s a woman with a uterus. Shouldn’t happen ever. Should be banned and outlawed. It should never, ever happen. Transgender women – women born men – they should not compete in women’s sports. Period. Full stop,” Carl Froch
