Tyson Fury Still Wants Anthony Joshua Fight

Tyson Fury confirmed that a bout with Anthony Joshua remains his primary goal—but only if he can navigate his next fight.
Returning to action on Saturday, April 11, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 37-year-old Fury will end a 16-month hiatus by facing Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs). Fury has not competed since his back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. At 37, a year-long layoff followed by a clash with a knockout specialist like Makhmudov is a gamble. Makhmudov brings a fearsome 86% knockout ratio and is coming off a grueling 12-round victory over Dave Allen. Should Fury falter on Saturday, the lucrative negotiations for a Joshua fight would likely evaporate.

Fury Reacts
“It’s been a massive rivalry for over 10 years. The British public is still baying for it. They still want it desperately. Even if we had a 200,000-seat stadium, we’d sell out 10 times. That’s how big it is over here. I do think I could beat him at any time, whether he was 25, 35, or 95. If everything goes well in this fight on Saturday night, then that’s the fight we’re looking to make next,” Fury said
Tommy Fury echoed his father’s concerns, viewing Tyson’s comeback as an unnecessary gamble. Tommy admitted there is significant friction, noting that while the family loves Tyson, they cannot support a decision they believe is fundamentally dangerous.
“He said if you asked any of his family, the answer would be no. We care about his health. Fans want to see him fight because he’s entertaining, but we’re looking at it differently,” Tommy said
