Tszyu Slams Charlo’s Performance Against Canelo, Charlo Fighting For Money Now

In some recent boxing news, Tim Tszyu has reacted to Jermell Charlo’s performance against Canelo Alvarez.
Charlo jumped up two weight classes from 154 in order to try and create history by becoming undisputed in a second weight class at 168.
However, the fight failed to go his way as the American was dominated in a one-sided loss via a unanimous decision. This was characterized by a knockdown in the seventh round as Alvarez threatened to end the fight. While Charlo made it to the final bell, Tszyu questioned the American’s mindset in that he was simply hanging in.
Tszyu On Charlo
“In all honesty, I thought the fight wasn’t as competitive at all. I felt Charlo just went in there to survive. He was working a lot on defense. He never made it competitive. Like, he never really went out there and said, ‘You know what, I’m going to have a go at it.
“Even when his coach was saying he was losing the fight, you need to go out there and actually go at it. He never pushed it, never put the press up, just moved around backwards. He had a certain game plan stuck in his head and just tried to move around and not get hit, and that was it.
“Good on him for surviving the whole 12 rounds, that’s an achievement on its own. But it’s not an achievement to lose the fight. You’ve got to go out there to win. Either win or die on your shield, as they say,” Tszyu said
The news was significant for Tszyu since he became the full WBO champion at 154 once the Alvarez fight began.
The Australian had been attempting to face Charlo himself since he was his WBO mandatory at 154. However, the American pulled out of their fight after injuring hand as he chose to face Canelo instead.
That resulted in the WBO stripping Charlo, who was not happy about the decision. That has set up a narrative for the two to face each other provided that there is enough demand to make it happen. Time will tell.
Despite this being the case, Charlo’s own comments suggest that the boxer has had a change of mindset of late.
The American expanded on how he was looking to make the most lucrative fights. And since Charlo has already become undisputed at 154, coupled with the fact that he is at the age of 33, the American is looking to get out of the sport with his future intact. His following comments confirmed as much.
Charlo On His Next Fight
“I just follow the plans and fight whoever. It’s about being great, and I’m already a legend in boxing. Hopefully, y’all put me in the Hall of Fame. I don’t know who the hell controls that, but I deserve it. It’s about fighting the best fights and making the most money at this point in my life and career. So, fighting Brian Mendoza or Tszyu, it’s not as satisfying. I’ll listen to my coaches and follow the plans of my management,” Charlo stated
With that being said, the only mega fights out there would be against Crawford or the other Charlo Jermall Charlo. The former, though, has ruled out Jermall following his loss to Canelo.
“Jermell Charlo, you went out sad. Didn’t even try to win, all you did was try to survive. You should be ashamed of yourself. Congratulations Canelo you made the so called lion look like a baby cub. Ok y’all I’m over Jermell Charlo he’s no longer on my hit list,” Crawford
Charlo’s Future
Meanwhile, the two brothers are unlikely to fight each other even if they are in and around a similar weight class. Therefore, Charlo’s only realistic options would be to fight Tszyu.
However, given that he has ruled him out, the American’s options are limited. And having already become undisputed at 154, Charlo has to question where he goes next.
At the age of 33, Charlo does not have too much time left in the sport. And if junior middleweight is his best division, then there is nothing else let for Charlo to do.
Therefore, the fighter has to question his motivation moving forward. And there is no getting away from that. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
