Tszyu And Spencer Lose Their Cool – ‘Trying To Make Me The Bad Guy’

Tim Tszyu and Joey Spencer held their final press conference before their junior middleweight clash this weekend.
Tsyzu is looking to get himself back into contention with a world title shot following two losses on the trot. He is the former WBO Junior Middleweight Champion, a belt he lost after losing to Sebastian Fundora via a split decision. His attempt to become a world champion soon after failed when he faced Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF Junior Middleweight Belt. Tszyu was knocked out, leaving questions over his future.
Spencer’s career is on the rise, with just one loss to his name. Since his 2023 defeat to Jesus Ramos, he has racked up three wins on the bounce to take his record to 19-1-0. The pair exchanged verbals after Spencer threatened to pull out of the fight over the lack of neutral judges. There were reportedly going to be three Australian judges, something that went against what they agreed. Spencer let his feelings made known.
Tszyu Vs. Spencer
“That pissed me off. The fact that whenever we travel, all of us Aussies, we don’t get that luxury. We just get what we get. For them to come with this mentality, it’s diva-like in my eyes,” Tszyu
“He’s trying to psych himself up. Keep trying to psych yourself up. You’re trying to manufacture something that’s not there. It’s fiction what you’re saying. “You’ve been lied to. They need you to be all fired up. They’re worried about you. It was either you or your brother [Matt Rose] that said we needed qualified judges. We have it in writing on a text message, we can release it to the public. You’re trying to sell a fight, that’s all you’re trying to do, you’re trying to make me the bad guy,” Spencer said
“Nobody lies to Tim Tszyu. Those comments are nothing more than Joey trying to get into his head. (Laughs) Actually, they’re exactly the type of fight week tactics you’d expect from a nice guy. When you’re not rude, when you’re not a ruthless sledger or trash talker – and Joey Spencer isn’t — these are exactly the tactics you use. You create disharmony with a smile and good manners. “And that’s fine. “Joey Spencer is a good guy and he’s trying to get under Tim Tszyu’s skin. That’s what he was searching for today,” George Rose (Tim’s Promoter)
