Tommy Fury Calls Out Jake Paul For An MMA Fight – ‘I’ll Knock Him Out’
Tommy Fury has called out Jake Paul for an MMA fight as The Problem Child’s PFL debut is expected to happen sometime next year.
Paul signed a deal with the PFL last year but has only been boxing, raising speculation over who his first PFL opponent will be. Paul has won his last four fights since losing to Tommy Fury. He faced Fury, who was the first professional boxer he had come up against. He dropped Fury with a jab, which was the highlight of the fight, although he ultimately suffered a split decision loss.
That was the first defeat of his career, as Fury would then have another crossover fight with KSI. Talks over a boxing rematch between Paul and Fury took place, but the fight never got made. Paul reportedly offered Fury $15-$20 million in a two-fight deal, one of which would have been MMA and the other in boxing.
Fury On Paul
But now Fury has expressed a desire to fight in MMA. He had been training with UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall. During their training together, Fury got a taste of what it was like to suffer a kick from an elite-level fighter. After having had the experience, he has now made it clear that he wants to take that fight with Paul.
“Jake Paul’s in the PFL, isn’t he? I’m going to smash his face in when I get good at MMA. I’ll beat him in boxing and the cage. Big useless prick. I reckon a year-and-a-half to two years of training until I’ll beat him in a fight, no problem, in the cage.
“He’s got the funds, he’s got the best trainers in the world, he’s got the best sparring in the world. So he’s doing all right. But no match for me. I swear to you, next time I fight him, I’ll knock him out. In MMA, I just want to give him a big fat (knee). All elbows, no fists,” Fury said
Will It Happen?
Nevertheless, the chances of this happening are very slim. Paul has a wrestling and grappling background, making him a slight favorite heading into this fight. However, The Problem Child may face backlash, given that PFL Chairman Don Davis stated that Paul’s first opponent would be a credible fighter. Fury has no experience in MMA, making that fight less appealing to the hardcore MMA fans.
There are several other options available for Paul. After beating Nate Diaz in their boxing fight last August, he offered him a $10 million rematch in MMA. Donn Davis even stated that he would go up to $15 million. Diaz did not take up the offer. Another alternative is to face Tyron Woodley. Paul has faced him twice in a boxing ring, knocking him out in their last clash. A fight in MMA would cap off a trilogy. Woodley has not had an MMA fight since leaving the UFC in 2021.
There is also the option to have a rematch with Mike Perry. Paul knocked out Perry in his last fight in round six. Perry currently fights under BKFC. He has an MMA background since he left the UFC in 2021 before joining bareknuckle. The fights with Perry, Woodley, and Diaz would prove more credible names. However, they are highly skilled MMA fighters, making Paul a serious underdog in those fights. A fight against Fury gives him more of an option of coming out with a win. It also potentially offers a bigger payday, given that they both have some form of crossover appeal.
