Tom Aspinall Ready To Crossover Into Boxing

Tom Aspinall is open to crossing over into boxing.

The Brit is currently in a position for a shot at the UFC Heavyweight Title after his UFC 304 win. He stopped Curtis Blaydes in his last fight to retain his UFC Interim Heavyweight Title and avenge the only loss he suffered in 2022. Before the fight took place, Dana White confirmed the winner would get a title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic

While the focus is on his MMA career, Aspinall is also open to boxing. He had one boxing fight in 2017 when he faced Tamas Bajzath. He knocked him out in the first round. Aspinall has an interest in boxing, having sparred with Tyson Fury.

He helped the Gypsy King prepare for his fight with Francis Ngannou. Fury struggled to produce his best as he was dropped in the third round. While Fury won a split decision, there was a feeling that Ngannou had been robbed. But Aspinall is prepared to enter the ring himself.

Aspinall On Boxing

“Oh, I’m definitely going to stick with MMA for the time being. I’ve got a lot more to do in the UFC at the minute. But, with what them Saudis are paying, like, if we’re talking about $15 million, you can never say never.

“At the back end of my career, I might look into that thing more. But right now, I’ve got a lot more work to do with the UFC, but I’ll never say never to it… I’d take a couple of money fights [in boxing] but to be a world champion, it’s a lifetime. [It takes] a full body of work to become a world champion. I might not be a world champion, mate. But, I’ll pop over for a few quid,” Aspinall said

There have been plenty of UFC fighters who have crossed into boxing. Ngannou, Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, to name a few. Much more recently, Paddy Pimblett stated that he is open to facing a YouTuber if the money is right.

A large part of securing those crossover fights is to build a big fanbase. Aspinall is on his way to doing that if he can secure a win over Jon Jones or Miocic. Jones is expected to win that fight. A Jones-Aspinall fight is the biggest in MMA now that Bones cannot face Ngannou after The Predator left the UFC.

Aspinall’s Options

Aspinall’s most likely opponent would be Jake Paul. The Problem Child fights at cruiserweight and will face Mike Tyson at heavyweight. Paul generates the big PPV numbers and purses. He also has a history of facing numerous MMA fighters. He recently boxed Nate Diaz and Mike Perry, both well-known in the MMA circuit.

Another option is to fight on Misfits. There are potential fights against KSI or even Logan Paul, who has boxed previously against Floyd Mayweather. But Aspinall can only do that once his UFC contract has expired. White only allowed one boxing fight when Conor McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather in 2017, meaning Aspinall may have to do it on his own terms.
