Tim Bradley Singles Out Tank Davis For Criticism – ‘His Name Is Getting Dragged Through The Mud’

Tim Bradley gave his opinions on a probable Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. rematch.
Davis secured a majority draw in their first fight to retain his WBA Lightweight Title. However, the fight was marred by controversy when the referee failed to call a 10-8 round for Roach in the ninth round. Tank took a knee voluntarily before going to his corner to wipe some grease from his face. The referee should have started counting, which would have made it a 10-8 round, giving Roach Tank’s WBA Lightweight Title on the scorecards. Roach’s team appealed the decision to the New York State Athletic Commission. However, Davis was lucky, as the Commission upheld the original ruling.
Davis vs. Roach
The Compubox numbers had shown that Roach outlanded Davis, as he was the better fighter. Tank faced a significant amount of criticism with suggestions that he was looking past Roach before the fight took place. Tank was vocal about retiring this year. He outlined his plans for wanting to box three more times before walking away from the sport. He has also been linked with names such as Shakur Stevenson, David Haney, Teofimo Lopez and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
There was a perception that Tank was looking past Roach for those bigger fights. However, he will likely have to take the Roach rematch to silence his doubters. His commercial value has dropped with a scathing response on social media, with many criticizing his boxing skills. Davis’ biggest win in his career so far has been a stoppage victory against Ryan Garcia.
But that fight has an asterisk over it since it was at a 136-pound catchweight with a 10-pound rehydration clause. Garcia is on record saying that he was weight drained, as well as suggestions that he entered the fight with an injury sustained in camp. Bradley felt that it was going to be tough for Davis to turn this around but said he had the ability to do it.
Bradley Reacts
“He landed on Tank Davis. [And] he was there battling mentally, going back and forth. He handled his business. He did a great job. The second time around… Look, Tank knows what he brings. Tank knows he’s a tough opposition. Tank knows that his style is tough as well. I’m sure he’ll go back to the drawing board and see what they can improve on. They’re gonna put their best foot forward.
“If this s**t don’t motivate you, Tank, the fact you have to rematch, I don’t know what will. His name right now is getting dragged through the mud. All them fans that was on his side, a lot of them are switching teams now. He’s got to prove, not only to himself but to his fans. If he goes in there and do what he was supposed to do the first time, all the s**t that happened is swept under the rug. That’s just how the fans and the sport are,” Bradley said
