Thurman Calls Out Crawford, Bud On Ennis And More

Keith Thurman has called out Terence Crawford following the latter’s stoppage win over Errol Spence Jr.
‘Bud’ became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era by stopping Spence in the ninth round to become undisputed in two-weight classes.
In the aftermath, Spence indicated his desire to run things back at 154 lbs as it suggested that he could no longer make 147.
Crawford, in response, was open to the idea as fans could end up seeing another bout. While that may have been the case, Thurman had other plans.
The former unified welterweight champion put his name into the hat to face Crawford by highlighting how his skills did not have the deficiencies that Spence had shown in the fight.
“Thurman right here, baby. Thurman has no fear, baby. Look, I’m not flatfooted like that. Crawford is an amazing athlete. We grew up in the amateurs together.
“I’ve seen this man do so much throughout his career. I salute that man. I always said, he (Spence) never fought an athlete, man.
“Spence has never fought an athlete. Boxing is stick and move, you gotta get in your groove and Crawford got in his groove. Spence tried to do the simple stuff,” Thurman
However, the chances of this fight happening are slim. Thurman offers nothing to Crawford in that ‘One Time’ does not hold a belt.
Not only that, but Thurman has been out of the ring since his win over Mario Barrios over a year ago.
A combination of injuries and inactivity have stalled his progress of late. And given that Thurman is 34-years-old, the American is entering into the latter parts of his career, making the fight unlikely.
And Crawford prior comments have confirmed as much.
“You’ve got to understand, Keith Thurman is the same guy who said I’m not a real welterweight. Keith Thurman is the same guy who said I haven’t proven myself at welterweight.
“Keith Thurman is the same guy who has expressed that he’s not interested in fighting Terence Crawford. Now all of a sudden, out of the blue he’s fiending to fight Terence Crawford? Okay.
“When you’re not relevant, you’ve got to take shots at the guys who are relevant. We don’t believe you, Keith,” Crawford
Bud On Ennis
Much in the same way, Crawford has reacted to a potential fight with Jaron Ennis.
Following Crawford’s win over Spence, Ennis became the IBF mandatory for ‘Bud’ at 147.
Although that may be the case, Spence and Crawford may run things back at 154 lbs, given Spence’s desire to exercise the rematch clause.
When Crawford was asked about the potential of facing Ennis, this is what he had to say.
“Y’all trying to see another dead body,” Crawford
In response, Ennis stated: “That’s cause he’s got plans on moving up to 154. He is acting for y’all. He is a walking victim. Stay at 154, so we can get active.”
Ultimately, there is a high chance that Crawford moves up to 154, indicating that he will most likely vacate the belts at 147.
But if that were to happen, then Ennis is in a great place to take on the biggest names. So far now, a fight between Ennis and Bud may still be some way off. Time will tell.
Shakur On Crawford
Shakur Stevenson has labeled Crawford as the greatest following his win over Spence.
The latter made a major statement with his win, as he made Spence look like a C-class fighter.
And in the process of doing so, Crawford became undisputed, following his accomplishments at junior welterweight.
Prior to the fight with Spence, Stevenson backed Crawford to stop Spence in a prediction that ultimately came true.
“Crawford is ready. He doesn’t even got to get into anything else. He’s ready. Nah, I don’t think it’s going to go the distance. Crawford by knockout. Eleven.
“People in the media, they talk bad on him, and they downplay every win he gets. So, he’s probably fed up and wants to show y’all tomorrow what he’s been working on. Take away Spence’s best attribute.
“His best attribute is his jab. If he takes away his jab, it’ll be an easy night. I think either way, he can take away his jab, but honestly, when Bud turns southpaw, he can get the job done. So I like him being southpaw,” Stevenson
And now that Bud has achieved this feat, Stevenson gave him his props.
“The f—— greatest. Y’all thought I was talking some bullsh!t. I tried to tell y’all. Y’all ain’t wanna f—— listen. The f—— goat,” Stevenson
Crawford’s victory showed that there are levels to the sport of boxing. And that ultimately separated the good from the great, as Bud placed himself into the conversation for being in the latter camp.
