Thurman And Jarvis Weigh-In Reaction – ‘That’s Not Good’

Keith Thurman and Brock Jarvis’ made the 154-pound weight limit for their March 12 from Sydney, Australia.
Thurman has his first bout since 2022, boxing at junior middleweight for the first time. He arrives into the fight with a Mario Barrios win in 2022, which was the perfect response to his 2019 loss to Manny Pacquiao. The reason for the delay between those two fighters was Thurman’s injuries, which hindered his activity.
One Time also pulled out of his 2023 fight against Tim Tszyu, missing out on fighting for the WBO Junior Middleweight Belt. Jarvis is on a two-fight win streak. He stopped Marlon Paniamogan and Adrian Rodriguez, respectively. That was the perfect answer following his first-ever loss, which came at the hands of the former IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Liam Paro. Thurman and Jarvis both weighed in at 153.8 pounds.
Reaction
“So I wanted to walk up like a brick. Walk up like a little Tetris piece. I know it was the last time I’d get to play with him, so I wanted to play with him one more time. Why did Keith Thurman come down to Australia? It’s to hunt down Tim Tszyu. To remind him that I haven’t forgot the contract that I signed.
“One thing Brock said to me which is alarming. He said he’s known for being aggressive and starting fast – but he doesn’t want to do that. He wants to, he said, kind of start slower. I’m putting words into his mouth but this is what I figured out, (Jarvis) wants to start slower and ride the wave, react to Keith. That’s not good,” Shawn Porter

“I agree with Shawn. If you’re going to sit back and watch what one of the greatest fighters of the past decade is going to do, you’re in trouble. Against Keith Thurman, you have to make him fight your fight. You can’t give the guy any time to think. Can’t give him any time to do what he wants. You can never give the great fighters that chance, you’ve got to turn the fight into whatever you want it to be. There’s no use standing there watching him.
“Something has gone through Brock’s head. I can’t tell you what that was but I really hopes he can go create one of the biggest upsets in Australian boxing. Because that’s what this will be if he beats Thurman. So as for what advice the former trainer would give?
“I don’t want to give that. I’ve left it up to them. Initially, I didn’t even know he was fighting Thurman and then, once I did, it was too late. But Brock says he makes his own decisions now. I just hope he’s making the right one. Because one of the most important parts of any fight is when you sit down between rounds, when somebody tells you what you need to do,” Jeff Fenech
