The Undisputed Fight Will Happen In December – Says Fury

In the latest boxing news, the undisputed heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will happen in December.
That is according to the Gypsy King. The boxer is preparing to face Francis Ngannou on October 28th, 2023, in a crossover fight. Provided that Fury comes out victorious, then the Usyk fight will naturally occur next.
The latter, however, had indicated that he required a 14-week camp in order to be ready for the fight. In addition, Fury’s bout with Ngannou would leave the Gypsy King with less than two months to prepare for Usyk.
As such, there was a perception that the fight would happen in 2024. This is particularly since Anthony Joshua had indicated that a Deontay Wilder fight was also being considered on the card.
And given that Fury’s representative had confirmed the date of December 23rd, the Gypsy King was adamant that the fight would occur then.
Fury On Usyk
“Usyk’s a sausage. I expect it to be taking place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it. Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He signed the contract, so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued. So he doesn’t really have a choice. They’re both out in the cold and they’re both frozen so it doesn’t really matter,” Fury said
Those comments were particularly vital, given the difficulties that had emerged in trying to make the first in the first place. Talks over a bout in April at Wembley broke down after disagreements over purse splits.
Despite Usyk agreeing to take 70-30, the deal failed due to disagreements over the rematch clause. Usyk demanded that a 70-30 split be given for the winner, while Fury was keen on an equal split in the rematch. But now it appears that a split was abandoned in favour of both sides getting the figures that they required.
Arum On Fury-Usyk
“There’s no split. Prince Turki for the sovereign fund negotiated a purse for Usyk, and a purse for Fury. They were each satisfied with the purse. They’re not stupid and they were not looking ‘hey, what’s the other guy getting?’ because they don’t care as long as they got the number that they were looking for, they were happy, and that’s the way it should be. For this fight and the Ngannou fight and for what’s down the line, I said he can look with confidence on making close to $200 million in the relative near term,” Arum stated
Nevertheless, there are still some hurdles that need to be overcome. Fury must come out victorious against Ngannou, while at the same time avoid getting injured.
In addition, the fight date has to be made official, something which has not been done yet. In addition, there is also the question of where the fight will take place, as a venue needs to be sorted. So as of now, there are still some questions that need answering.
