The Four Kings Documentary Explores Lewis vs. Bruno, Eubank vs. Benn

The Four Kings, a new Amazon Prime documentary, will explore the two biggest British rivalries between Lennox Lewis vs. Frank Bruno and Chris Eubank Sr. vs. Nigel Benn.

The documentary will air on September 27. Lewis defended his WBC Heavyweight Title for the second time when he faced Bruno. Bruno had never won a world title, having fallen short on two occasions: Losses to Tim Witherspoon and Mike Tyson kept him waiting for an elusive title.

Rivalries

Meanwhile, Eubank and Benn faced off in 1990. Eubank won the bout in a ninth-round stoppage. The project looks into the mental health struggles of the various fighters. It also touches upon their legacy and impact on the next generation of boxers. Eubank Sr.’s son followed him into boxing. He won the IBO Middleweight Title while securing the biggest win of his career in his last fight.

He stopped Liam Smith to avenge the loss in the first bout. Although he may not have hit the heights that he wanted, Eubank Jr. is still a big name in the UK. Nigel Benn’s son, Conor Benn, has tarnished his reputation. The boxer developed a big following only to fail two VADA tests for Clomiphene. He is currently suspended, as his career has taken a massive nosedive since then.

Trailer

The following trailer shows footage from their fights as they recall the most significant moments of their careers.

“I was delighted and honoured to be part of this film. This period of time in boxing history was a special time and each of the 4 individual stories interwoven was part of World Boxing folklore. Each of us had our own ‘character’ in and out of the ring which kept the boxing and non-boxing fans hooked around the TV or desperate to get actual tickets for the fights.

“The boxing world has moved on some say for the better but this is a unique story. If it was fiction it would be a best seller. Will we see four boxers like us boxing in the same period ever again? I doubt it. I still say to people, have a look at the fights of that period including mine and show your younger family,” Frank Bruno

More Reaction

“What’s unforeseen is the consequences of the choices you make to be number one. The shot on Michael [Watson] changed my life, Michael nearly died and I’ve been carrying that weight since that day and the scar will never heal. It’s a dangerous sport, life is fragile and we have to be well aware of how much boxing has given us, but how easily you can also become seriously damaged,” Chris Eubank Sr.

“I really enjoyed the time I had with Frank and Chris expressing our hearts and being truthful about our careers and life.” And Lennox Lewis said: “It is pretty special to have been on this journey through the 80s and 90s, and a privilege to share the story with Frank, Nigel & Chris on screen. Whilst we had our own lanes, our own processes and experiences, we had the combined desire to get to the top and we achieved that, in the process, we made history as the first ones to do it for Britain and the rest have followed,” Nigel Benn
